No doubt about it, Bruno knew how to lose bravely, but until Francis drilled it into him the 90s to hang on for dear life, when needed, Bruno had not a clue how to win ugly. I cannot see Bruno blasting Spinks out early, and I cannot see a 1980s Bruno, even the one who beat Bugner, lasting the distance to outpoint a true top 3 fighter. Cooney, put a shocker of a performance in, but going into that fight, many figured Cooney would just be too big for Spinks.... Bruno had the tools (the jab) to win, but Bruno was just so programmed as a fighter. And as shown against Smith and Whitherspoon, although actually having a more than fair chin, he just did not have the instincts to survive an onslaught, particularly in the later rounds.
