Was Leon Spinks ever championship material? Second time around I put George in the same kind of category as Leon Spinks. Yes he won the title but he bypassed the top ten to land the fight. He certainly was not good enough to retain that title was he?

Two guys I believe beat Foreman lasted only one round with Mike Tyson. Stewart and Saverese. Another guy Morrison, who even the judges decided beat Foreman, only went one round with the novice Michael Bentt in his very next bout. Then a forth guy to take George the distance, Crawford Grimsby, was knocked out in one round by Jimmy Thunder. Four examples.

Yes George won the title. But it was such an upset. There is a lot of evidence that Comeback george was usually a level below the very best.

Leon sure won it, and George did too. Leon was a decent heavyweight, beating Ali wasn't the only thing he ever did. He also lived in a very fast lane.

To say they weren't championship material when they won the thing is just insane tbh.

What do you make of the examples of four one round victims either beating or taking George to close fights on points? Jimmy Thunder and Micheal Bentt improved on his results without being great fighters.

I truly don't care. The fact of the matter is he beat the lineal champion by KO. He also had other good showings.

Nothing you type will ever take that away from him nor convince anyone it didn't actually happen.

    The guy is phenomenal.

I agree with you. It certainly was a supernatural phenomenon that George re-won that title.

If Tommy Morrison could use constant movement against old Foreman
to win on pts there is no reason Spinks couldn't do the same.
    Spinks on unanimous dec.

Spinks. Bad style matchup for the Mr Clean version of George, who is never once in serious trouble but by the end of the fight looks like he has a seafood allergy and just visited the all you can eat buffet at Red Lobster.

Fro George cuts him off much more easily and scores a brutal KO within 3 at the outside.

Spinks could use his quickness, boxing skills and his awkwardness to his advantage. I would make George a very live Underdog. He could time him with a good right and possibly sit him down. Old Holmes hurt Spinks a couple of times if Foreman clubs him he`ll probably go down.

The most likely scenario IMV is Spinks wins on points surviving a scary moment or two.

Vs a 70's George, Spinks has the style to cause a Jimmy Young like upset. But Foreman is the favorite there.
