If he were in a position to land " at will " then perhaps, but I don't think that he's going to have that situation at his disposal. Wlad was a far better technician than Cooney with a more polished offense and in much greater shape. The man we saw in that clip, was a guy who showed up at a career high weight and had boxed all but one round in the previous three years.. Still, he rocked Spinks at points in that fight, and leaves one wondering what he might have done 5-6 years earlier..
I agree for all these reasons. Beyond the Tyson fight, the Holmes rematch shows us that Spinks would have tremendous issues dealing with Wlad Klitschko's jabs, and the overall awkward attack of Vitali would bother him greatly, I feel.
Outside of sneaking past the fading Holmes, Spinks wasn't much of a Heavy anyway. He dumped his title to avoid Tucker, beat up a semi-retired Cooney for more money, was largely inactive, and got KOed by Tyson for a payday.
So you guys for the most part don't think that Spinks' awkward style could give Wlad and Vitali trouble? I don't know about Wladimir, but I do think that Spinks' style could bother Vitali.
Yeah, he may've been the right type to get in and out on the current Vitali. I'd consider that a toss-up. I'd favor today's Wlad over Spinks but wouldn't be shocked at an upset.
I think Spinks goes the distance. Eddie Chambers almost went the full 12 with Wladimir, and Chambers has got nothing on Spinks. Spinks would do even better against Vitali, who's slower than Wlad.
The same Cooper that hits harder than Tyson? atsch Keep dreaming, Spinks had to be promised a career high payday to step into the ring with Tyson. There isn't enough money in the world make him get in the ring with Sir Bert Cooper. While Cooper beat the greatest fighter of the 80s in prime Orlin Norris, Tyson got knocked out by Buster bum Douglas.
He thinking of VOIDALI who ducked out of fighting past-prime Rahman 5+ times , then retired in hiding with a "Bad back" cos he was scared like a lil *****. :deal
Ah, but you forget about Spink's ever so prestigious win over Sir Steffen Tangstad, who I think surpasses Orlin Norris as best of the decade. This was the victory that no doubt, inspired the ring magazine to proclaim Spinks as "the champ" even after Tyson had unified the crown and stopped everyone else.. Just my $0.02.
