If in any fight the boxer who belongs to the higher weighclass is not allowed to weight the limit of his weightclass, then the fight is considered a catchweight fight period.

This my friend does not serve any agenda, I don't have any.... it is just a clarification.....what I don't understand is why some of you get so defensive with something that it isn't worth it ...

And this is what you said...

You are basically saying that any fighter that moves up to a new weight class is always fighting at a catch weight which is completely untrue.

I already did. It just seems as if you have a mental block. But I can wait until you begin to understand. I just hope you get it before the new year.

No...it's not a spin. Weight classes are there for a reason. YOu seem to somehow forget that DLH wasn't always a fighter at 154. Matter of fact DLH prime or best weght was proably 147.

DLH came from 135....any weight that he AGREED to over and above 135 is now all the sudden a catch weight in your eyes? Let me know?

Cotto started things out at 140...JrWW. So all of his fights for the last 8 fights have been catch weights b/c 140 WAS his weight class when he began his career. Are you understanding how you are sounding now?

It is a spin... and you are still trying to spin it.....

It doesn't matter where you came from.... what it matters is who you are now..... It isn't only about going up... it is about coming down...

If Pac fought the 122 lbs champ at a weight 135/130 or below.... then it would be a CW fight.... it is irrelevant at this point if Pac came from 105 lbs for example....

Read again the post and you will see that your answer doesn't make sense at all.

Anyway, I said in one of my previous post to another poster that I don't want to continue discussing this topic.... so I'll leave it at that..... you can say whatever you want.... and if you think that I am wrong then so be it......c

NO, I don't have a mental block.... what is funny is that you quoted some of my posts but two of the most important ones you didn't comment at all and now you just say...."I already did".

Anyway, have a good time as I am having.... I am drinking right now one of my favourites beers.... "LOWENBRAU"

    Cheers...

LOL...I know...it's a spin:roll: Only b/c you have to back pedal.:rofl Well....RIGHT THEN at the present time DLH was a WW not a 154 lb fighter. Am I spinning it again?:-(

Listen....the fight is only a WW fight if both camps agree to a WW fight which is a limit of 147. So they can come in anywhere from 140+ to 147.

If there are stipulations to where it's a "WW" fight but you can't come in above 145...it's a Catch weight. AND YES....this applies to all other weight classes. I do believe you are wrong, but to each his own I suppose. Enjoy the fight!:good

Yes, you are still spinning it..... If DLH was a WW fighter at that time then why Roach insisted that they would fight Hoya only at 147????

It is like saying that they (Pac) would fight Cotto but only at 147....

Of course I'm still "spinning" it in your head b/c you are still back pedaling trying to justify your stance that has a weak foundation. Look......DLH when he faught PAC in Dec of last year was a Welter weight....AT THAT PRESENT TIME, Oscar was 145 which is within the Welter weight limit, making him a bonifide welter weight for that moment, for that fight and that was not just the Required weight for DLH, but for PAC as well. PAC too couldn't exceed the 147 lb welter weight division requirement. Again...making it a Welter weight fight. Both men for that fight were WELTER WEGHTS.

DLH said he wanted PAC b/c the Floyd Mayweather rematch fell through and DLH suggested they they meet at WW. Roach agreed and made it a point to ensure that DLH did not come in OVER the Welter weight limit that was agreed to by both camps b/c PAC would be at the disadvantage have to move up 2 weight classes being the far smaller man.

That fight was a legitimate Welter weight fight.....Not a Jr WW.....not a Super Middle weight, not a Light weight....but a 147 lb Welter weight fight.

PAC and Cotto wanted to fight one anther. THey decided that the fight be at a CATCH WEIGHT! At 145. It's considered a Welter weight fight but with a weight requiremnt.

Since the fight is still within the Welter Weight limit of 147....it's still a welter weight match but at an agreed weight stipulation that each fight can NOT exceed.

THe only difference between a Catch weight and regular WW, Jr WW, Lightwieght, feather weight, Middle weight fight ect...ect... ect... is the fight that there are no speacial "Weight requirements" within each division and each fighter can come into their fight "UP TO or BELOW" the division limit....where in a catch weight you can't come in at the standard division weight limit.

1- The weight that Hoya fought at was a weight withing the welterweight division, (being the maximum weight allowed 147), but Hoya wasn't a welterweight fighter.

2- There was a weight limit (maximum weight) stipulated in the contract for Hoya and that was 147 lbs.

3- If there is a weight limit stipulated in the contract of any fighter that pretty much prohibit the fighter who belongs to the higher weight class to weigh or come up to the maximum weight allowed for his weight class, then the fight is a catch weight fight.

Hoya = A Jr. Middleweight fighter; 147+ up to 154 lbs.
Pac = A Lightweight fighter; 130+ up to 135 lbs.

Roach: "We can fight Oscar but at 147 Lbs."

In other words we can't fight him at 154 (his weight class)..... He has to come down in weight (at a catchweight) and that weight was 147, which wasn't Hoya's weight class. This wasn't the traditional catch weight fights we usually see.... it was a catch weight fight between two boxers who were apart for more than one division/weightclass.

It is irrelevant if the weight they fought at was the maximum weight allowed for a especific weight class, (in this case the WW class) or the fight "was a legitimate Welter weight fight" as you put it.... bottom line is that the weight and the weight class they fought at wasn't Hoya's weight class nor Pac's weight class.

They fought pretty much at a 'catch weight-class' to put it in another way.... and if they fought at a catch weight-class, then they fought at a 'catch weight'.

If that isn't good enough for you, then there isn't anything I can say to make you think otherwise.

You have your opininion and I have mine..... I respect yours I hope you respect mine.....
