There is a famous saying which goes pretty much like this: Everyman has a war to fight, in life some of us don't find our wars. Some of us are wars find us, and we have no choice but to fight. On 26 of July last year, a war found Miguel Cotto. On November 14th, Miguel Cotto was beat down and punished by Manny Pac. Its been afew days since then, and ive ask myself why did it happen...? during the fight Miguel Cotto a man who's jab, moved Sugar Shane Mosley, a man who beat down Zab Judah into submission...he looked like he was more ruthless than Rambo...... On Novemeber 14th, Miguel Cotto was competitive. But i cannot get my head around the fact that, he never once hurt Manny Pac. Manny Pac was fighter who was getting knocked about at ****ing Super Feather Weight or Lightweight or whatever ****ing weight he used to fight at. And now Miguel Cotto, could not make a impact..? Many people will think i am making excuses or trying to take the credit away from Manny Pac.... But sometimes in boxing, there are fights....WARS. Where fighters loose their primes... And when you fight these fights, these Wars happen.. A piece of you stays their..... Many people think they know what War is..? But they don't... There's nothing glamorous about war, there's nothing right about taking a whole heep of abuse and punishment, but during war...men will bleed and....Men will be broken. I honestly believe Miguel Cotto left apart of himself inside of the ring against Antonio Margo, for all we know......both men will never be the same....? Just like Nigel Benn, Evander Holyfield, Muhammad Ali, Riddick Bowe... Miguel Cotto left apart of himself inside of the ring...... I think before Miguel Cotto retires, there's only one last War to fight. And that is to rematch Antonio Margo... Thats his War, his fight..... And he knows it...
Good article, I can't see Cotto going up against Margarito again. I know Miguel is a brave, courageous boxer but the "Plaster wraps" allegations have warped his mind and thats why he will not fight Antonio. I for one would love to see this grudge match
I have the utmost respect for Cotto, but he simply ran up against a greater fighter on Saturday. I'm not convinced that the Margarito fight really had anything to do with it.
Some men don't accept this excuse. Some men, while being battered several times, come back. Some men go to many wars. That's what champions are about. Hearns is the best exemple I could give you. Cotto is not done at all. He'll come back.
Wow, Pac got dropped by smaller guys and not by Cotto or Hatton or DLH? I guess maybe all the ****ing morons that run around on this board making lists of guys who they claim have "glass chins" need to realize that there's a **** ton more to it than they know. It depends on conditioning and whether or not you see it coming way more than it has to do with how "hard" you get hit. Anyway, I think the loss to Margo took something out of Cotto, but he would have beaten a ton of top guys the other night. Pac just has great reflexes and quickness and could either see everything coming or counter before the combo got dangerous. We'll have to see how Cotto looks in his next few fights.
But for all his weak moments, Hearns always had that stick of dynamite to turn to in his right hand. One of the stories that played out this weekend, and that I overlooked, is that Cotto's shots don't really get the kind of respect at 147 that they used to at 140. Yeah he outjabbed Shane and swelled him up, but Shane was right there late to make a fight out of it. Margarito walked through him, and Clottey just shook his head and smiled at him. Manny just rubbed his gloves together and said lets fight. I want the best for Cotto, I'm a fan and he's shown us the heart of a champion over the years. If he comes back, I want to see him "go to war" with a better trainer, a better gameplan, and better defense. Brawling isn't getting it done for him anymore.
