KD'd against Kawashima, that's as much as they have on him, but has taken shots with Arce and Munoz with no issue, two punchers. His defence is too good to be stopped.
That's exactly the point I'm making So Gorres, Briceno and Posuwan are just three off my head that can go 12 with him in recent times and Mijares is going to get stopped? atsch Ridiculous.
Supernaturals, who make it look easy, are not as well recieved during their best period than blue collar fighters who have to work hard for the wins, for whatever reason.
I think mijares clears the division now. Biggest fights out there for him are Donaire and Rafael Marquez at 118. If he beat Rafael at 118, cleans out 128 and beats Donaire, no doubt top 3 p4p.
I downloaded and watched some Montiel fights yesterday and I can't see any way this fight could be close at all. Mijares' style and overall skill/talent would be a nightmare for him, I don't see how Mijares could be any less dominant than he was against Munoz.. I could only see how he could be more dominant. Montiel is a very solid B+ boxer and the 2nd best superflyweight out there, but he has shown several flaws in the past that Mijares would be able to capitalize on greatly. Against Gonzalez (IMO Montiel's most impressive performance skillwise even though he lost), Montiel was able to overcome Gonzalez's height/reach/size advantages and outbox him at times because of his superior footspeed/handspeed, but against Mijares, he will not have those advantages and therefore will not have success outboxing him, since Mijares has much faster hands than Gonzalez and even faster hands than Montiel. Mijares obviously doesn't have Gonzalez's power, but he throws a lot more punches (especially combinations) and he's more accurate with them. He uses his height well and has improved more and more as an outside fighter after every fight. Another thing about the outside.. Mijares' jab. This is a huge, huge factor in this fight that for some reason, people forget when analyzing the matchup. I think Mijares could win this fight easily with his jab alone. Montiel has shown vulnerabilities against the jab, especially against southpaws and fighters with very good handspeed. Mijares not only is a southpaw with great handspeed, his jab is one of best in boxing; it's extremely accurate and he doubles and triples it up constantly. Mijares' jab is what this fight is going to be all about, because it will shut down Montiel's offense and bust his face up very badly. When Montiel gets hit with a jab, he often gets knocked off balance or he just stops what he's doing and starts thinking too much instead of coming back with punches. After getting hit flush with a jab or a counter, he pretty much becomes scared to attack sometimes and boxes very tentatively. Gonzalez refused to jump on him and increase his punch output or follow up with combinations when having success with jabs/counters, but I think Mijares will attack Montiel when he freezes up more than any boxing-style fighter has in the past against him. It'll make Montiel very uncomfortable and I'm not sure how Montiel will react... fight extra tentatively or try to drag Mijares into a war. If he tries to make the fight a war, Mijares will stop him. Montiel clearly has some stamina issues and Mijares' workrate is very good in the late rounds, when Montiel will be fighting with his hands down, getting a little sloppier, and breathing heavily. I don't think Montiel will adjust well to anything Mijares has success with during any point of the fight.. it usually takes him some time to adjust to worse fighters, so against Mijares I just see him getting taken out of the fight mentally while getting punished more and more over the course of the fight. If Montiel becomes very tentative late in the fight (drawing boo's from the crowd and semi-running), then I think Mijares could still stop him if he goes for it, but I wouldn't be surprised if Montiel made it the distance fighting very tentatively. However, I favor Mijares to stop Montiel, because I think Montiel will not start running and fighting very tentatively when he sees he's losing, he will try to look for big shots to time Mijares with and will end up getting broken down and stunned in the process. Montiel's chin is worse than Arce's(at the time)/Navarro's/Munoz's and once Mijares has him hurt I think he will swarm him and get a TKO victory. 115 is very easy for Mijares right now, nobody can give him a real tough fight until he goes up to 118. If Mijares continues to show great improvements, maybe 118 will even be easy for him. 122 is out of the question though.. he's too small to fight those guys.
Huki, we predict Mijares to TKO everybody. The damnest thing about it though is that if he pressed on Munoz a little harder in the late rounds, there is no way Munoz would have lasted any longer, in the 10th, Munoz was essentially out on his feet and a flurry would have finished him off, just like he did with the strong chinned Kawashima, I guess his corner didn't want him to take any chances though and he was trying to stop Kawashima in fear of a robbery. But regardless, he does have the ability to stop the top fighters at 115, if he presses for it.
I actually picked Mijares to wide UD Munoz, so I'm 1/2 in the Mijares stoppage predictions and 2/3 in his win predictions (favoring Arce a year ago ). I've always been a lot more confident in a TKO prediction against Montiel than against Munoz. Munoz has better stamina, a better chin, and is slightly mentally tougher than Montiel IMO. About the Munoz fight.. yeah, I was hoping he would go for the stoppage more and swarm him in the late rounds, he certainly had the stamina to try it. Munoz is tough as hell but he was one heavy shot away from falling.
My boy tight trunks Montiel is going to stop Mijares. Too much pedigree and experience. He will go to Mijares body as well as other dingbats he has previously fought did not attempt to do.
Most people think featherfisted is defined by a low KO ratio. :-( P4P, Mijares is probably closer to Cotto than someone like Malignaggi, who is truly featherfisted. BTW, how did you score Gonzalez-Montiel? Some of the rounds were pretty difficult to judge, I had it 6-4-2 Gonzalez. Also, how do you think Montiel would react to getting dominated by Mijares, would he fight extremely tentatively late in the fight? This matchup is the biggest at superflyweight, but it might end up being less crowd pleasing than Mijares' fights against Arce/Navarro/Munoz.
