WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? He is clearly a fantastic boxer, who has dumbfounded and outfoxed numerous opponents, unless you believe the SD's!!!

I honestly think Vic is not getting enough credit.

Maybe people will remember this fight before someone gets bashed for picking the underdog in a fantasy matchup on here.................nah, probably not.

Mijares needed to establish his jab and circle to his left. He didn't (or couldn't) do it, and so he lost.

    Good post. :good

I saw a ton of things Mijares could have done better on Saturday. Vic is still open for the jab every time he stands there sticking out his left elbow, and he is still there to be countered when he comes in, although of course, his raw power makes this much easier said than done, and as you pointed out, the angles are confusing as a lefty. He still loads up everytime he throws the straight left, and when he doesn't lead, he backs up with his hands down and has no clue how to fight going backwards. His left uppercut though is a thing of beauty, to the body and the head, which was exactly what Mijares kept walking into.

Mijares looked a combination of sluggish and overconfident from the opening bell, then that KD and all of the lefts he ate slowed him down even more. Who knows if it ever happens down the line, but I'd pick Mijares to win a rematch. This wasn't a fight where he did the best he could and still lost, ala Cotto - Margo. He came in expecting Vic to bow to his greatness, and received a very rude awakening. Props go to Vic for delivering it.

vic's style was the X-factor. is posed to much of a complexidy for mijares to deal with. so much so he wasn't able to make the proper adjustments on the wim

Much of the loss had to do with Mijares NOT expecting Vic to BOX. Vic was able to "BOX" using the jab, akward foot work and even some angles. I think the power Vic had was also a "eye opener" for Mijares from the 1st round and that may have kept Mijares honest.

Mijares was cautious throughout and that had him a bit hesitant which gave Vic all the space, time and opportunity needed to break Mijares down obver the 9 rounds. But honestly I too thought that Vic would be decisioned.

THe awkwardness and Vic's boxing should be respected even though he still has many holes that can be capitalized on by a more composed boxer.....A confident Mijares....one that did not hesitate or wasn't scared to pull the trigger would have been able to grab a decision based on what I saw....but the very first punch that Mijares felt caused him to abdandon his game plan and he paid the ultimate price...Maybe the jawing from Vic did get under Mijares's skin.

I agree. It was a mental thing from the first round on. His arrogance played against him in a big way. Let's see how he can rebound, because he definitely has the skills.

True. If he doesn't fight Darchinyan straight away he should have a confidence builder, fight Montiel AND have his head switched on.

If he can beat Montiel, he'll have the perfect incentive and mindstate to tackle Vic again. Montiel would be a tougher fight IMO, but, to the haters, I have a feeling this is just going to make Mijares come back stronger.

Sure, he hasn't been K.O'd before, but he knows what it is like to lose, and he seemed okay after the K.O. Didn't look like we should be worrying about mental scars. The mind games were won by Vic in the first round when he hit Mijares with that uppercut, and, to be honest, I don't even know how Mijares got up from that.

Still, 8-1, 8-2 is pretty shocking for a boxer as good as Mijares. He'll have to pick himself up and just carry on, get straight back into it and fight.

Yes because his level of competition was lackluster. Lacy is a steroid inflated oaf. He's also about to get schooled by Jermain Taylor.

I think this was the key to the fight.

Maybe Mijares was drugged or broke his neck (it's spinal) in training or Vic drank something from a black bottle in between rounds.

It doesn't matter at this point. Mijares got punished and make to look like a fool. He should go after the rematch to prove it was a fluke - but after suffering such a punishing defeat - a rematch seems unwarranted.
