no last fight he showed inexperience, this fight he was too cautious. he'd still beat berthoe though.
I think Jones is ready to take the next step. I think he has all the tools to go far. Especially if he stays at 147. Fought a real good fight last nite. I think the cuts played some kind of role in JSK having to force the issue more than normal. I think Jones would have won anyway, but he dominated more than I expected.
mike jones needs to fire those 2 cheerleading ***s in his corner and go with a real trainer such as eddie mustafa muhammad, manny steward, ronnie shields or nazim ****n' richardson, dont jones live in philly too?
Don't know why guys are getting on Jones. He dominated the guy last night by maintaining distance. JSK's only chance was to keep Jones in front of him and connect on something big. Jones took that away from by circling and catching JSK with combos and body shots everytime he got close enough. If he stood toe to toe all night he still might have won, but he might have gotten ktfo too. He utilized his own strengths while negating his opponents. Isn't that what it is about? Just because he didn't do it while pushing forward all night doesn't make it any less impressive.
Jones is exciting, great to watch. I could see him hanging around the top 10 ranking for years to come but ultimately coming up short against any decent champion.....may pick up a paper title along the way. At best I see him ending up at a position that Berto is in now with quite a bit less skills than Berto.
Jones showed he improved and he could box pretty good too. He SHOULD focus more on being a boxer/puncher because at times I can tell he doesn't know if he wants to be a puncher or box. He needs to learn how to infight and tie up a fighter. Vs a fighter like Berto who throws a hell of an uppercut will eventually get past Jones jab and want to do damage on the inside. Jones also did very good in putting combinations together instead of being reckless like the first time. The best way to beat a brawler or a bodypuncher is going to their body, beat them at their own game. Because brawlers come forward alot and disregard defense, they usually have good chins, and so fighters with good jabs are encouraged to jab them for easy points, but I disagree. Had Jones gone more to Karas body, I'm sure he would of stopped him. Still, good performance and would love to see him fight Alvarez.
I like Mike Jones. He's a true Philly fighter.He gave a tough opponet a rematch and beat him worse the second time around.
He doesn't impress me at all i think he'll be a good stepping stone for the up and comer or more like a gatekeeper. I don't think he'll ever be a champion cause he just don't GOT IT. For heavens sake he's having a hard time dealing with karass atsch. He needs to train under Ariza and develop those legs cause he looks wobbly every time he circles his opponent :smoke
a bit more defensive work in training and he should develop nicely,he has all the basics-power,speed,toughness-a bit more solid fundamentals and he could be a real challenger
