McCallum. Brings too much to the table.

Probably Toney or Curry. They could whack you anywhere.

Zale by late rounds TKO. McCallum wasn't as hard to hit as people try and make him out to be. Zale is too strong and his body whacks would break McCallum's lanky body down round by round.

Before Tony Zale lost 4 of his prime years to the Navy, I have Tony Zale equal at least
to any middleweight since, including Robinson, Hagler, Monzon, LaMotta, or any 160 pounder. No MW since his time was tougher or a better puncher...Do not judge Zale by his fights with Cerdan or Graziano....Soon there will be a long awaited book on Tony Zale.
About time, by a terrific writer ...

Really? looking forward to that then. Always had a lot of respect for Zale.

Cool. Old timers who saw Zale pre-war speak incredibly high of him. I was hoping to get some insight from them as film of that period is sparse at best.

McCallum. I think Zale is overrated.

He sure isn't on this thread.

I'm a little surprised that posters are so emphatic in their pick of McCallum. I'm not saying he should not be favourite, but here's one wallet that would stay in the pocket for this fight .

I used to know an old Polack that swore Zale had a **** like a builder's forearm.Said that was why he was never the most skillful fighter from the waist down.

I'd have to go with the Jamaican here.he'd be able to take advantage of that and turn him repeatedly with his superior footwork.

Suppose it doesn't help Zale that most here (me included) only have seen post prime footage of him.

Must be weird for you, that all the so-called rose-tinted spectacle wearers are pretty much unanimously going for the more recent fighter.

No, I think McCallum generally gets his due. Things tend to ease up a bit a decade or so after they're retired - it's when they're active that it's generally at its worst.

    Fair comment. I agree.
