Anyone with a brain knows boxing is about creating publicity. You can be a great boxer and still end up with medicore middle class money. How is boxing working out for Gamboa, Lara, Provodnikov, and Rigondeaux.... some of the best boxers today... not 5 years ago, not with the best records, but best today right now. Lack of personality will really cost you. You got to be a little bit crazy to make the money. Not many boxers can pull off just being normal and getitng rich like holyfield.
Yeah pretty much Teddy Atlas has always been right about Tyson being a liar and mentally weak that folds under adversity
Bull****, Mike used to deal with adversity just fine, he only became like that when he was in decline.
Mike Tyson was fine when he could intimidate and bully his opponents. And when things were going his way. But when somone would stand up to him Tyson would start to unravel mentally and do things like bite ears and try to break arms etc.
yeah like he did vs douglas and Ruddock that is bull**** in his prime years he didn't look for easy way out of fights.
Tysons bullying tactics didnt work and he got ko'd vs Douglas. Tyson unraveled mentally when Douglas didnt go down in the first couple rounds and he was fighting back. How many times does Teddy need to explain this ffs?
Other opponents didn't let Tyson bully them before Douglas and Mike wiped the floor with them anyway. Did you not see Tyson looking nothing like his usual self from the first round? No head movement, timing off, just going through the motions. Surely you noticed that?
so why did he continue to fight him and even kd douglas when he was being beaten up and hopelessly behind in fight? If he would be such a bully he would have done the same he did vs Holy or McBride where he quit when going got though.
Also vs James Tillis where Tyson was inexperienced and faced former world title challenger he had to dig deep to win close decision.
mike tyson, is a extremely damaged guy. Remember the hearings after he bit holyfield, regarding his licence reinstatement? He was always psychotic, the problem was cus let him get away with it because of his obsession of finding a hw champ! But cus forgot his own dam doctrine on character right?
My impression is that, in recent years, he's always completely honest and sincere, don't you guys agree? He talks about EVERYTHING, any question you ask him, he just seems to pour his soul out, no matter how private the subject you're asking about. Seems like you could ask him anything and he'd just speak his mind and open up. Teddy really said this? I've seen documentaries, like for ex. this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWtr9hvqq9c where you can clearly see that as an amateur fights were extremely tough for him psychologically and you can see that Teddy had to massage his confidence and psyche every step of the way to get him in there and perform and have him not fall apart while waiting for the fight to start. Indeed, he even says something to the effect of "I guess God said I'll give him a strong body, but a strong mind, that's something he'll have to work on himself." But I figured that's all just in his amateur fights. I thought by the time he became a pro he was tough. Those late fights notwithstanding because he wasn't really interested in fighting most of the time there.
