This fight was discussed after Tarver knocked out Roy Jones. So- A) How would it have turned out? and B) What would have been the implications for each fighters legacy?
Tarver was always a lazy fighter in my opinion. It seems his entire career was based on a fight with Roy Jones. He seemed to never get up for another fight. That being said, his laziness lack of power and low workrate would have him in big trouble with any shot version of Tyson.
A. STFU!(with all do respect and no offense) B. Tyson's aura would've been completely shattered. And Tarver would be known as an ATG for defeating the top 2 physically dominating freaks of all time
Now if I had put Roy Jones in place of Mr Tarver a lot more people would be picking him. I personaly think that Tyson was in freefall and it is not out of the question that Tarver could have capitalised on it. Hell Danny Williams and Kevin McBride did.
Mister jones and mister tarver both get royally spanked by mister tyson, and you know this well janny. Slow night?!
i think tarver would have lost at the press conference. i have a feeling that tarver would of settled for not getting hurt in his head before the fight started, and would been ultra negative and for me at some point tyson lands and then its goodnight
Yeah but they didnt outbox him, they laid on him absorbed his slower output and wore him out with their physical size. Both McBride and Williams were big men. Tarver is a lanky guy who didnt and couldnt fight that way against Tyson with any kind of success. Tyson still looked great with the likes of Cliff Etienne, but he was having trouble with the big guys. Tarver would box from the outside so the fight would be more on Tyson's terms. I never really understood why Finkel kept putting him in with big heavyweights after the Lewis fight.
There's a marked difference between McBride Tyson and Williams Tyson. Williams beat Tyson because he hit like an absolute truck. Tyson's footspeed wasn't lightning any more, but I can't consider that Tarver could have moved well enough to keep out of harms way for 36 minutes AND outbox Tyson to a decision. And he's certainly not knocking Mike out.
