Jack Johnson the natural 190 pound fighter who got knocked out by a natural 170 pound fighter. Jack Johnson the guy who fought back when boxing was in it's baby stages, Jack Johnson the guy who fought mostly small sub 190 pound guys, Jack Johnson the guy who fought when boxers didn't throw many punches vs Mike Tyson? Tyson by 1st round KO similar to Tyson vs Marvis Frazier.

 

Baby stages? Boxing back then makes todays sport look like Granny's sewing circle. Every division was loaded with vicious rough men who many times fought over 200 fights in a career. Have you seen a pair of 8 oz gloves from the 1920's? , barely enough padding to prevent a broken hand , and designed to be able to grapple, hold , and pull your opponent. Could Tyson get him? sure, but transport Mike back to his era and the results become murkier to predict.

 

Exactly!! A great point in the above post. Put Johnson in Tyson's peak era (mid late 80's) and I think Tyson wins by stoppage or KO. Put Tyson in Johnson's peak era (probably about the time of the Jeffries fight) and that's a tough call--I think Johnson's got a legit chance!

 

Right and the skill level was still primitive. If you don't think boxing has evolved since the late 1800's early 1900's then I don't know what to tell you.

Also that isn't how fantasy fights work. You put a boxer in his prime vs another boxer in their primes. Mike Tyson fought in a era where boxers were far more skilled. Tyson would destroy Jack Johnson and any other fighter from that era.

 

Outside of a few elbows here and there, Tyson usually gave up in the clinch and didn't try much to fight his way out of them. I can't recall many instances where he did outside of the second Bruno fight, smothering Tyson was usually the only way to contain him.

Johnson has the benefit of not only being ridiculously strong, which is proven against notoriously strong boxers similar to Tyson's size like McVea and Jeffries, but also having extensive grappling experience and is one of the best infighters of all time. I think Johnson also actually beat a few wrestlers around Europe in 1913, so his style and grappling skills are probably something Tyson's never really seen before. Not to mention any potential grappling skills Tyson's opponents could've used on him was nullified by the rules. Nothing would be stopping Johnson from abusing that clinch and initiating it as much as he possibly could.

And this is why I think Tyson wins. JJ was a master of the clinch, which Tyson is no fan of. But JJ also looks primitive in the way thay he fights. Mike is gonna win the exchanges almost every time. Good luck in parrying one of Tyson's uppercuts.

 

Johnson dealt with young langford and young mcvey..both who had comparable power to tyson and were 5 times tougher. He has no problem with tyson.

 

Johnson was ko'd by Choynski early in his career at the time the weight differential between them was negligible.
Johnson's opponents had the highest weight average until Joe Louis came along.

 

Ok with this sentence I'm right in assuming that Mike loses against all current

Johnson went down...but he got up to win...that never happened with "Iron Mike"...Tyson went down...he lost the fight! Not the "mark" of a great fighter!!!
