"No match for Mike Tyson" is quite a bit of a stretch don't you think?

Not nearly as much as " Lyle TKO 6 Tyson. "

You don't think he could handle Tyson's onslaught yet James Tillis took Tyson's best shots and gave Mike all he could handle.

Tillis was a learning experience for Tyson. He had been a pro for little more than a year. Can't put much stock into that performance.

Lyle was an okay fighter. But he's not much better than the Berbicks, Smiths and Brunos of the world. No chance for him in this match-up.

But did Tyson really improve much after the Tillis fight? I think he looked just as fast and explosive as he ever did.

Tell you what.. If you want to use the 19 year old version of Tyson with umpteen number of fights to tailor your argument, then I'll use the 40 year old lyle who C00ney sparked in one.. Fair ?

Well Tyson was champion at 20 so him being 19 doesn't prove nothing.

This was far from a learning experience fight for Tyson, it was a very very close fight. Infact if the fight had gone 12 rounds there's a very good chance Tillis would have been the winner.

Sure he did. He may have been physically mature but he didn't have a lot of experience and Tillis was a tough gatekeeper who was involved in a lot of big fights and knew his way around the ring...almost any great heavyweight has some shaky moments on the way up. It's just natural.

    Oh come on..

Tyson by stoppage or points. Lyle is the type of lug Tyson made a career off beating.

What aspect of his game improved then? Tillis was on a shocking run as well don't forget.

Agreed. I'm not even sure that Lyle is so dissimilar to a man like Trevor Berbick.

My feeling is that if Lyle could make the fight play out like Lyle vs Foreman, which I think he could, he'd most definitely win.

That's the thing though.. He wouldn't.. Because he'd be facing an entirely different type of fighter stylistically. One who bobbed, weaved, had fast hands, great combinations, and assuming was at his best wouldn't be coming off a 15 month layoff..

Lyle was absolutely better than these 3 guys that foreman would have smashed easily. A guy who dropped foreman twice early cause his power would have chance to catch and stop anyone
