Steroid were a way of life for many top athletes during this time frame. Liston quit in his first fight with Ali after taking a huge beating and tearing his shoulder. He never showed any tendency of mental weakness prior to this fight or any time after this bout. Even in his last pro bout bleeding profusely and taking a bad beating he never quit ultimately being koed by a horrific right hand. Tyson had significant issues mentally as an amateur and these resurrected themselves against many of his opponents later in his career. So this was always within Tyson and hardly comparable to Sonny.
That doesnt mean Tyson was aking steroids. And so what if he was? wasnt it Liston who was applying funny substances on his gloves? Theres more proof of that than there is of Tyson on steroids. Nobody knows much abotu Liston so you cant just say Liston didnt ahve his issues, dude didnt even know his own dob
Anyon questioning tysons heart need to watch his fights with Ruddock. The man stood up to him and landed bombs, Tyson kept working the body, slipping and countering to the head. Stoppage might be a bit weak but the way Ruddock sagged into those ropes makes me think mike had him finished anyways. Tyson > Liston.
You think Ruddock was better than Liston? Do you think Ruddock was a better boxer? had a better jab? had more power?
Rudduck was nothing One trick pony. Liston was far greater. Absolutely no comparison. You can't grow a heart. Your don't all of a sudden become courageous. if you speak as I have to the people who trained Tyson as a young man and through his pro career THEY will tell you Tyson was always a head case. When he faced adversity all that self doubt came to the surface. He never had that internal toughness that men like Ali and other all time greats possessed. All fighters have flaws....Tyson possessed all the physical assets but his weakness was between the ears. Don't believe me? Talk with any of his good trainers amateur to pro.
I would favor Liston over Mike. Sonny was stronger and would force Mike on the back foot, which is never good for the shorter guy who is trying to come forward. Liston is just a bad style match up for Mike. His jab would stop Mike in his tracks everytime it landed, he'd outmuscle Mike on the inside, have the advantage on the outside with his 84" reach, and he had the chin to take the artillery Mike would be throwing at midrange. He would also be able to bang with Mike with his uppercuts and deceptively short left hook.
Until the rematch with holy Tyson never demonstrated a lack of heart. At a similar stage in career liston demonstrated a lack of heart against clay. Tyson's heart > Liston's heart.
I definatley do not think he's better than Liston atsch You were comparing Tyson in the Ruddock fight, and Liston was better than Ruddock that's why i said that
Liston falted against one fighter even in his fight with Leotis Martin he showed heart and he was very old if you compare one of his last fights to one of Tysons, Liston-Leotis Tyson-Mcbride which was worse Sonny tried till the end, and anyway Liston would not need much heart for this fight cause he has a style and physical advantages to beat Mike, and he did have heart he just didn't have it in the Ali fight, and he didn't show it against perhaps the greatest boxer of all time....
Tyson only quit twice in his career. Holy 2 and McBride. Liston quit twice in his career against Ali. Tyson has the advantage in speed, power and durability. He'll knock ten bells of **** out of Liston.
