This would be an amazing fight, but I’m not getting hyped for it until I see that it’s actually happening. Mikey has had so many fight rumors I’m not believing **** till he’s in the ring.
Interesting test for both guys. Weirdly enough, on paper, Prograis has the stronger claim to being a better fighter. He had a close fight with Josh Taylor whereas Mikey got wiped by Spence and his best win is Broner?
I like this fight. There's lots of a variables and a clear dichotomy. You've got the talented, and incredibly skilled technician in Mikey, whose fundamentals are right up there with anybody's at the minute. He has the chin, handspeed and power to be elite, albeit lacking the overall, freakish athleticism that someone like say, Teofimo Lopez has. Whereas Prograis is the opposite; good skills, high-level, not elite, technique, with insane physical gifts. The explosive counters and excellent head-movement is awesome both on the front and back-foot, and I thoroughly enjoy watching him string his shots together. Stylistically, Mikey's at an advantage IMO. I think Prograis' gives off an air of that typical counter-puncher-who-can't-lead vibe, like Toney, Marquez, Medel or Sanchez. If Mikey sticks solely to boxing, he should definitely take it. And I also tend to view Mikey as the better fighter, but there's variables, as mentioned. Does he have the love for it? The motivation? How will the inactivity affect him? Is it at 140? Will the weight drop hurt him? I want Prograis to win, definitely. But it's a 50/50 as far as I'm concerned, and these are the fights boxing needs.
A juicy match up. I am a big fan of Mikey he has great fundamentas but also a big Prograis fan. I am siding with Prograis in this one I just think Mikey is too inactive and Regis is close to becomng a big star in boxing. A win over Mikey would certainly boost his profile as he is not as well known as his talent deserves. Prograis pts or late stoppage depending on what Mikey is like after such a long break.
I like this match up - was hearing about Mikey vs Taylor, but Mikey vs Rougarou is an equally good matchup. I think this gives Regis a real chance to show he learned from his mistakes vs Taylor. Of course Mikey has great skills and fundamentals but IMO he has not looked as good past 135, is this rumored to be 140 or 147? I guess the question is whether Mikey can get himself back into shape at 140, because Regis is a big dude, and I think he will be better at 147 than @140. Have to assume it's 147 at this stage seeing as Mikey's last bout against Vargas was 147. Some very interesting dynamics to this fight! We know Prograis has chin and heart, but as Mikey has proven to be elite, does this tell us more about Prograis (and by extension Taylor's) real level. Many folks around here rate Prograis and Taylor on the same level as Vargas who Mikey obviously beat fairly comfortably. I really like both guys, but would probably edge to Regis on both prediction and supporting at this stage. Hope this one comes to pass!
One other thing to note, if Regis IS fighting Garcia, that rules him out of the rumoured list for Crawford, meaning Bud is most likely to be fighting Zepeda who did not impress last time out against Lundy.
No doubt Mikey is the class of this matchup, but there's no way he'd make the effort that Prograis would. Imo Garcia would have to be the favorite, but I'd call Prograis live underdog for a legit win and Garcia maybe ripe for being on the wrong end of questionable cards.
This is a great fight I've always loved watching Mikey, his skills are top drawer but he's been so inactive. If this happens now though, I think Prograis wins this.... he gave Taylor a great fight and I think he's on the way up in terms of becoming a star in his own right.
