Yes, he could bring the pressure and control with his jab. Dawson is not as tricky as Calzaghe is because he's more of a normal slick western boxer type and not a pace controlling awkward fighter. Though I would favour Dawson to be more likely to win a decision because if he boxed a perfect fight he could take a decision. Kessler is going to do well against any fighter that doesn't set a hyper pace that he can't keep up with and Dawson can be hit with jabs and a counter right hand. Imagine this, Kessler drops Dawson in round 5 despite Dawson having won 3 of the first and really stuns him, but Dawson survives, then Dawson just fights too tenative while Kessler brings the heat and keeps the jab pumping with other work as well, Kessler would be winning rounds that Dawson does too little as he's now ultra defensive. ^^ That's how Kessler wins a decision. Kessler has shown a pretty solid finisher when he has a guy hurt, so I think if he gets him down, he'll jump on him and finish him off.
His headmovement is poor, I agree. But his feet are quick and his hands are also and he has an excellent judge of distance with excellent timing and a commanding jab. Dawson won't be setting a psycho pace here, so the fight is very even all in all with Dawson having a better defence and quicker hands. Stylistically the pressure that Kessler brings behind that jab is going to be difficult for Dawson.
Good analysis. I think that just now Dawson eeeks out a UD. Though a Kessler KO would not be out of the question.
A Dawson UD is not out of the question at all, Dawson is a great fighter. But if you just think if Adamek would have stepped the pressure up a bit earlier on and actually had some form of defence, he'd have not been absolutely dominated like that. Kessler is a much more skilled operator than Adamek and he will be landing shots on Dawson and making Dawson fight solely off the backfoot for most of the fight, against Adamek Dawson was able to press and unload on him behind his jab. So it's a good fight, many things can happen, my money would be on Kessler and I'd be pretty confident on the pick also.
Because a technical pressure fighter is Mayweather's stylistic nemesis. Cotto is hittable yes, but he comes forward well behind a sledgehammer jab with good timing and keeps a very solid high guard and has great footwork these days. Unlike Hatton, Cotto would bring the pressure that Mayweather wouldn't like, but also the accurate timed blows inside and out and Mayweather really isn't going to be able to drop him or hurt him badly if Shane Mosely couldn't put him down(Shane hits plenty harder). Shane could deal with Cotto well because the guy has been pretty much made out of steel his entire career and could take Cotto's shots... Mayweather hates to be hit and if Ricky Hatton and to a lesser extent, Jose Luis Castillo can back you up and in Castillo's case, land bigger punches all night in the first and then give him a really competitive fight in the second, then what is an even more vicious, more skilled, more powerful and much bigger guy going to do? Cotto UD. Mayweather will just be way too defensive and if he tries to start opening up on Cotto, his steadily declining speed is going to allow himself to get caught with the bigger timed shots everytime. I'm thinking 8-4, I also think Cotto dropping him is very likely at some point in the fight. You are also going to have the most motivated version of Cotto to date if he gets a Mayweather fight, because that will set him up for life if he wins, he will do anything to win this fight.
Dawsons pressure is not in your face pressure. But Dawson throws a whole lot of punches. Str8 accurate hard punches. That is the kind of thing that would rattle Kessler out of his comfort zone. Getting hit. Kessler is like a statue upper body with SUPERB TIMING AND JUDGE OF DISTANCE:goodthat is his game. Well placed power shots. He could KO Dawson but I doubt he would. He would get rattled out of his zone as Calzaghe did to him easily by landing NON clean punches and just being active not doing much mixing it up. Dawson catches Kessler with a great shot before the reverse happens.
Floyd has not lost ANY speed. He just stands his ground more. Floyd will figure out Cottos timing before the other happens. Cotto is a Floyds biggest threat of current active fighters but Floyd would keep him turning like Zab did and land sharp counters and GO TO THE BODY. Floyd would get off jabs to Cottos body which will be key for a win. Floyd wins this fight in a tough UD by taking early rounds and coming on strong late.
Very intesting. You do not normally call fights wrongly. I realy think that the fight depends on Mayweather. If Mayweather was to move in and out and throw combinations even just one-two's from the begining I think that he would win a wide UD or stop Cotto late. However, the odds of that are slim and Mayweather is quite likely to be ultra defensive under fire. I am still undecided :think
Problem is that Floyd doesn't have Zab's speed and southpaw stance, Zab landed some great counter shots on Floyd in the same way he did Cotto, I think he even stunned Floyd more than he stunned Cotto. Zab, for all his faults, is excellent for 3 rounds and gives anybody issue's in 3 rounds, so it's comparable to Floyd who doesn't fight all out like Zab and won't change anytime soon. I doubt Floyd would even have success at 140+ fighting all out aggressive like Judah, I also think Zab's timing may be better in his left. Floyd will be hurt by Cotto's work, I'm certain of that, Cotto is a terrible style for him.
Mayweather couldn't do what you said, pop in and out and throw 1-2's, because he'd be getting countered in return(Cotto's timing is top class) and then he'd stop doing that. I'm telling you guys, Cotto can really stun Mayweather nastily if he lands flush and he will. And Mayweather can't stop Cotto, ever, if he couldn't stop Judah, he won't stop Cotto, KOing Hatton has warped a lot of people's sense, when Hatton was always mediocre and always had jaw issue's as seen from the Collazo fight and others.
We will split on this. Floyd is a different bread of fighter. He is too smart too tough and too many dimensions to be beaten by a fighter like Cotto who is a great boxer but you know his strengths and weaknesses. You underestimate floyd and Floyd is great at avoiding jabs despite what morons thought during the ODH fight. ODH stopped jabbing b/c of the counter right hands and he was missing. Cotto does not keep pumping the jab, he times it. If Cotto pumped and doubled and tripled his jab like ODH you have a point. Cotto has a well timed power jab that he is one and done with. Floyd would smell that coming.
Unlike Calzaghe, mayweather can crack if he sits on his shots. His str8 right hand would be able to catch Cotto to great effect. His lead left to the body and spin away would work as well. When Cotto cranks a left hook he turns with it wide. Cotto's best weapon in this fight is his lead right hand. Floyd is not going to get hit often by this. Floyd is in a class all by himself for adapting and creating a gameplan and sticking with it. Floyd will give Cotto too many different looks for him to figure him out and destroy as Cotto does to all of his opponents.
