Lawwwd, are you Brits on some sort of mass troll? atsch 'To beat Kessler'- is this the same guy who's best win is over Librado Andrade? This is James Toney, who'd done more in boxing at the age of 22 than Kessler has or ever will, and you're starting with the premise we have to look for ways in which its possible 'to beat Kessler' ? ! ? ! You guys are bat**** crazy
Toney by late TKO or wide UD. At 168 and in condition, he'd turn, rotate, roll his shoulder and pop Kessler with wicked right-hand counter shots that would seriously take a tole.
Toney wins and it's not even close. Toney's skills and talent are in a different stratosphere than Kessler. Ask yourself how is Kessler going to win this? I don't see any feasible way possible.
I would have favored Toney but that all changed after Kessler was beaten by Calzaghe, after that loss I'd have to favor Kessler over Toney.
Wishful thinking. 'Stand straight up' fighters like Kessler would NOT give Toney "fits." The last time Toney fought someone with a style similar to Kessler's was Dell'Aquila. Toney destroyed him. Stand up fighters are easy marks for schooled, technical boxers like Toney.
Exactly, there is absolutely nothing is kessler style that would trouble Toney, I'm not sure if people even think before they come out with that line.
Kessler wouldnt be an easy fight for James. In fact, Kessler wouldnt be an easy fight for ANY 168 pounder in the history w/the exception of RJ. Having said that, I gotta go with Toney. Kessler doesnt have a style that James favors, but still, Mikkel is too upright for Toney not have been able to tag him. And its not like Kessler posseses the amazing speed that Roy had to befuddle Toney. I think its a close fight for 6-7 rounds, with Kessler having a slight edge, but after that I think Toney takes over. Toney by UD.
toney by UD..this fight won't happen no more but if it did before i'm even willing to bet my car on it
Out-boxers are what I was referring to. Toney's skills translate a lot better to in-fighting than out-fighting. He's arguably the most overrated fighter on these boards because everyone takes part in circle jerking over performances over shot brawlers who play into his hands like Barkley. He had below average footwork and ability to press a fight, which showed in his lackluster performances against Nunn, Jones, etc. Hell, he wasn't able to conclusively beat a natural JMW in Mike McCallum, and that was by far the best performance of Toney's career. He's comically overrated. Kessler isn't the exact style I'd choose to beat him, but he's one Toney would have trouble with given his jab and ability to keep the distance. He is a very fundamental boxer, but there's a reason those techniques are taught, because they work.
Toney beats almost any damn body, right now even, The only person that beat him at heavy is Sam Peter, and some people think they went 1-1... Toney has stayed a factor like people wish Tyson did...Toney is the higest skilled boxer in the HW division, he's getting in shape and is about to win some titles. James "Lights Out" Toney: "I knock out all bums..."
So who do you pick against Toney...???...and who do you think he could probably beat, that most people might not agree with...???
