It's pretty terrible outside of Aspinall, Volkov, Gane and Pavlovich. Blaydes can be pretty good at times but he has terrible fight IQ. Had some hope for Spivak as his Judo/Sambo is pretty solid, but his striking and chin are pretty terrible. He needs to spend a year training in The Netherlands sparring and training with top HW kickboxers then maybe he can contend.
How bad the UFC heavyweight division is: - 37 active fighters - Average age 32 - ZERO former champs in the division - Only 2 fighters have had P4P rankings - 21 fighters with less than 5+ fights in the UFC - 19 fighters with less than 3 UFC wins - Only 5 fighters with no losses in the UFC - Only 6 fighters on win streaks (2 or more wins) - 17 fighters lost their last fight - 11 fighters with 5+ years of experience in the UFC - 15 fighters have losing records in the UFC This content is protected Oh, and there are rumors now that the UFC is asking Aspinall to vacate, and Aspinall is asking to be released in return. This would leave the division with: 1 Ciryl Gane 2 Alexander Volkov 3 Sergei Pavlovich 4 Curtis Blaydes 5 Waldo Cortes Acosta ... what a mess.
Dana has no control over the company at this point, he admitted as much in a court hearing. Its been rumored for a while that the new owners have pretty much taken over all of the decision making from Dana, and its coincided with Dana´s lack of passion for the sport. Basically, Dana has nothing to do with the matchmaking, the rankings, title fights, or any sort of negotiations. Hes basically a PR guy and a manager.
Cain Velazquez got released, and it turns out that most MMA fans don´t know that he actually shot a man, and not just at the alleged pedo. Most MMA headlines leave out the fact that yes, Velazquez shot someone who was technically an innocent bystander.
I just saw this the other day. When did this come to light, because that’s actually crazy. Whoever are the powers in play really are giving the UFC constant Ls currently
There are a lot of valid criticisms when it comes to Dana, but in my opinion he is now undeniably validated as being a great promoter. For years I heard how the only reason the UFC was good was because they had a monopoly. Yet when someone else took over the company is when the product turned to ****. Dana was damn good at his job, otherwise they would not have built a monopoly from scratch. (yes, yes, the UFC as a brand already existed, but it was also in the gutter when Dana and his buddies picked it up)
