How much better would the fighters be (in the sense of being able to win, not sportsmanship or skill) if the UFC didn't drug test for anything? Painkillers, steroids, illegal drugs, you name it.

What sort of drugs would the competitors use most frequently?

Best comparisons are PRIDE and the WWE I guess. I think this would be more health problems rather than answers though, especially in the long term

Haven't we already seen this hypothetical play out in real life over a decade?

I've always wondered about this. Statistics show numbers that are close to zero when it comes to steroid related deaths per year. Steroid use could have a long term effect on health but the same can be said about cigarettes and alcohol. I don't want to sound like I condone the use of illegal drugs. I just wonder why PEDs are banned when they are basically just 2 or 3 steps above vitamins/supplements.

Why not legalize PEDs? As long as the fans get their entertainment they will continue to watch their selected sport. WWF/WWE has been a successful business for many years. And Pride was bought out by a larger company, it didn't collapse due to a PEDs scandal.

That's extremely naive and selfish Count Pac

Opiates and barbiturates are, from my limited understanding so correct me if Im wrong, one step short of heroin, rather than the Vitamin comparison.

What you will basically see is guys strung out on this ****, fighting with injuries that would otherwise require rehab and rest, and the guy with the best Chemist will be determined the best ''fighter''. Not my cup of tea at all. Long term you are not going to see guys with enhanced performance putting on displays of super athleticism, you are going to see strung out junkies trying to earn a $ to feed their habit. The long term effect of fighting for a living can be costly, add to the mix getting punched harder for longer too, then that is a problem which stems from PEDS. Maybe it's just me, but I feel a little guilty when I see legends like Joe Frazier and of course Ali struggle to be even coherent in interviews. Imagine the state on the retired PED generation, look at Saku as an example of a former PRIDE guy who fought in a PED era.

And the business success of PRIDE and WWE have nothing to do with the debate about the long term health of the guys who are drawing in the revenue imo

But of course, the masses always want more. I think the levels of athleticism are fine as they stand. No need to get greedy and demand that these guys should sacrifice more of their health purely for our entertainment. Because if you do legalise PED's, then if you want to keep up with the Jones' (not literally) then you will have o take PED's. Right now the fighters have a choice, fight clean, or run the risk of getting caught, fined, suspended and shunned.

It would be madness. Athletes would be taking steroids, they'd be taking pain killers, god knows what to cover up injuries. It would seriously impact their health too.

You look at guys like Flex and Arnold in bodybuilding and you wonder if its the steroids or growth hormones that did it to them.

I was referring to things like HGH and EPO. These are not Barbiturates are they? I could be wrong. I'm not an expert on these things. But something tells me they are not central nervous system depressants.

I see your point. But I just don't like the fact that fans and the powers that be are playing the "overprotective parent" role. What I'm basically saying is - and I'll use an analogy - I'm allowing my 17 yr-old kid to have sex (they are going to do it regardless of what I say) but not before teaching him/her the risks and emotional damage it can cause. I've never heard of a guy dying from steroid use. Have you? Even if there are are former pro wrestlers out there who are suffering from long term effects, is that so different from getting lung cancer from smoking...or...liver disease from alcohol abuse? Are we going to start banning cigarettes and alcohol too?

Dirty fighters are getting smarter. They are finding intelligent ways to beat the system. If Boxing's drug defense system is flawed, my guess is one which exists in MMA isn't any different in terms of effectiveness. I would not be surprised at all if a staggering amount of boxers and MMA fighters are juicing as we speak. Might as well tell them this: We care about you but as adults you play at your own risk!

When my favorite fighter is beaten to a bloody pulp I'm sick and tired of feeling like his opponent might have cheated with PEDs. I'm also disgusted with the fact that fighters who have been caught have gotten a slap on the wrist. Boxers and MMA fighters who have been guilty of PED use are still regarded as heroes and everyone seems to forget they cheated in the past. That's bull****! I would feel a lot better when I'm confident the playing field is even.

but arent you saying that those people who take steroids have less of a prolonged life??? I dont exactly understand your argument bro because if you are saying that since fighters do a combat sport it will mean that steroids decrease their life if they take it then you are fool hardly confused. :hi:
