Mosley is generally viewed ad the number 1 welterweight. is this true tho? he beat margarito, but people now view margarito as a cheat, so this victory isn't that great.

lets say mosley fights cotto/mayweather next.

would he be the betting favourite?

I don't think he would, because of his size he'd probably get the nod against pacman.

but if he isn't the best, why should he be considered the best?

    Mosley is the best.

He dropped a very tight decision to Cotto, making Cotto the man.

Margarito destroyed Cotto, making Margarito the man.

Mosley demolished Margarito, making him the man.

If Mosley fights Cotto again, he will start as favourite and he will win by stoppage.

If Mosley fights Pacquiao, he will start as favourite because he is far bigger and stronger.

If Mosley fights Mayweather, he will start as underdog because Floyd is a welterweight like Shane, but Floyd is still close to his prime whereas Shane is not, and Floyd is unbeaten whereas Shane is not.

All depends how Cotto looks against Pac, if he wins impressively then Mosley goes in as the underdog for sure. Against Mayweather he goes in as the underdog for sure.

Only fighter who can make welter that MIGHT be the betting favorite over Mayweather is Paul Williams and that depends how he does against Pavlik.

i know linearly he is deserving as his status, but hell linearly erdei is the best light heavyweight, briggs was the best heavyweight, and baldomir was the best welterweight.

what i'm saying is, i know why mosley is viewed as number one. but considering the current landscape of the ww division. is mosley the best of the bunch, i'm not convinced he is.

I believe so. He damn near went even with Cotto, then demolished the man that Cotto lost to.

i agree, williams is the only man with the stamina and speed to trouble mayweather. people say mosleys size would trouble him, but mayweather has consistently fought bigger fighters throughout his whole career, and never had any worries then.

    TOP DOG UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE!

Right now, Mosley is the champ and the man to beat @147 imo. That's not to say i would favor him to beat every other ww, just that he's the king of the hill until someone topples him off of it.

He is the #1 welter, when Floyd retired he gave that away, the winner of Cotto Margarito then became the #1 welterweight, Mosley moved in and beat the winner of that fight, So yes Mosley is the Number 1 welterweight today.
Mayweather cant say he is becuase he hasnt even fought a welter weight since his come back....
Now of Course the media and fans and sports books will make Floyd the favored to win..
But that doesnt mean he will win... Keep that in mind.
as far as Mosley vs Pacquiao, Mosley will knock out Pacquiao, Too Bad Cotto is going to get the job done first.
Now if we see a rematch between Cotto and Mosley, I think again its a pick em fight, Mosley will have the mental edge in beating Margarito and considering their last fight was a razor thin edge for Cotto I think Mosley pulls it off..

Question I have is, Why are so many Floyd fans against the idea of a Mosley Mayweather fight?

I mean come on as a fan its pretty sorry to say, ohh well he didnt fight me then so **** him now, Mosley is the best welter weight out there for Floyd to fight, Then again Floyd has said we aint boxing to find out whos the best.....

that is exactly my opinion. i dont think he's the best ww out there. but he is the man to beat right now.

people go too far saying he would knock out cotto & mayweather. he might be number 1 but he isn't the best

Yes. Mosley looks rejuvenated: much fitter, more athletic, more powerful, more accurate, more sharp. Against Cotto he was pretty average by his standards, and ran out of energy very early, having to constantly change tack to steal enough rounds to keep him in the fight. At 147 he is very strong and retains much of his old boxing ability and speed. His demolition of Margo was much more decisive and impressive than any of Cotto or PBF's recent victories.

I think he beats Floyd with simple, quick flurrying and having the strength to impose himself, back him up and shoot from there (like Castillo/DLH). I think he beats Pacquiao by just being naturally much stronger and a good enough boxer to handle Pacquiao's movement and combination-punching. Williams doesn't count as a Welterweight at the moment.

    Mosley is the man.
