Larry Merchant asked Shane about fighting Floyd after the Vargas fight... Shane actually said he had a TOOTHACHE
The ONLY reason Shane wasnt pressing for a fight with Floyd during 08 was because he wasnt definitively retired and Shane's partner Oscar De La Hoya was looking set for a rematch with Floyd in november 08. Shane Mosley went into the ring with Margarito and destroyed him for 9 rounds - there is definitely a difference to Shane with Nazim in his corner. Although his father provided Shane with some good things, Shane sometimes looked a little lost just trying to smash a guy to pieces like Mayorga without having a real solid gameplan where he could effectively use his technical and physical gifts, but having Nazim in his corner is actually an extra weapon to his artillery and will allow him to do that, and that will be decisive in the big fights i believe.
I remember when Floyd fought Castillo, Corrales, Oscar, Gatti, Baldo and Judah and even Hatton to an extent everyone said alll 3 had a chance because Floyd was naturally weaker and smaller then them. Now he only picks on smaller guys. LoL a guy that has moved up 6 weight divisions is picking on smaller men :rofl:rofl
All those missles that Mosley landed on Margarito ain't landing on Floyd. You have to think, vs Cotto, Mayorga, and Margarito, Shane didn't exactly fight defensive experts, which makes people think that Mosley is an absolute monster. I'm a Mosley fan, as well as a Floyd fan, but I think Floyd takes this one.
Mayweather by decision. The key is defence. Shane would take more punches than Floyd throughout - probably not the harder shots but shots, pointscorers nonetheless & that would likely be the difference on the cards.
i have one question for people? would ssm or odlh be undefeated bragging that there the best fighter in the world if they had floyds record? shane ud so longs as he keeps up work rate an goes to body to edge out rds.. just as fast w/ reflexes in my opinion floyds a good fighter but a bit overrated..
If the fight happened now, like if were to happen in Jan. then I'd say Mosley by SD. I don't think he's fresh enough to KO a slick Mayweather. If SSM happens to hurt Floyd, "Money" would just hold and move away to survive to the end. I do not dismiss the posibility that Floyd could win a UD, though. The longer the fight gets put off, the more Mayweather has the edge in beating Mosley.
