Mosley is a great fighter and a for sure hall of famer, but I never seen any fighter with Shane Mosley where he showed that he was a lights out boxer. He always was a fighter who depended on physicality. He looked like a good boxer against someone that was slower than him, but at the end of the day, he's a power puncher with fast hands.

Mosley has not jab and he wings shots ... He has a great chin and is always in great shape, but he's not the fighter than many people see him as. He's very limited ... his balance is very poor ... he doesn't have a commanding jab ... he's head and shoulder movement are overrate and he has no rhythm.

    Great fighter though ...

    What do you guys think?

Noticed you've been giving Mosley more and more props as the fight gets closer. Don't worry, Floyd will get some credit.

Yeah I think everyone knows Mosley is not at all a pure boxer and depends a lot on physicality.

He is a power boxer. :nono

The jab thing is overstated. It's a tool that he keeps boxed until there is a strategic need for it, almost a last resort. He obviously prefers to bomb away, but he's no reckless slugger. A lot of asserting dominance over Margarito had to do with slowing down his advances early, and he did that with a very effective jab.

As for balance, he'd suffer a lot more flash knockdowns if he had poor balance; the term you're looking for may be positioning. He does not employ a conventional pure boxer's stance but is able to get away with this and still put torque on his punches and occasionally slip shots and/or take them fairly well when they land. A lot of this, as you say, can be attributed to chin and athleticism, but make no mistake - Shane is a well schooled boxer. He just prefers to POWERBOX. :p

Intentional ... gimmie an example when the jab was effective for Mosley ... he's has a great chin thats why there weren't many knockdowns.

Look at his record ... he tries to knock everyone he fights out and thats contributed to his 5 L's ...

He is NOT a power boxer. He is a "speedy slugger". Ot atleast in his prime.

Tito Trinidad was a Power Boxer when he was at 147.

Oscar is more like a boxer puncher.

Anyhow, Mosley can box against b level fighters as he showed us in the Collazo fight, but mostly he is a slugger with handspeed.

    :good

The reason he beat Oscar the first time was because Oscar fought Shane's fight, and slugged it out with him.

The reason most felt Oscar won the second fight was because Oscar effectively outboxed Mosley.

If u followed Mosley's career, his father trained him to "POWER BOX" of some sort. Plus, he's from Southern Cali wit all dat delicious Mex food. U r what u eat nd his father trained him 4 many yrs. Yuri Gamboa reminds me of a prime SSM.

So what has he been doing with his life?

I'm pretty sure he's not a professional chef.

I did give an example...he controlled Tony early with the jab more than any other punch.

I said if he had poor balance he'd have more flash knockdowns. You do know the difference, right? Ones where someone's not hurt, but gets put down because their feet aren't set properly or their weight is shifted in such a manner that leaves them vulnerable to getting physically toppled by a landed (or even partially blocked) punch - has nothing to do with chin.

If Mosley has Oscar's jab, then he'd be a more of a complet boxer ...

When you're faster than a vast majority of your opponents and you thow wicked fast combo's then you're going to look like a boxer, but when that speed is neutralized and that power is ineffective then he's looks very ordianary and not that great of a fighter. His two biggest wins were against DLH and Margarito ... He has no headmovement he got 5 L's against guys who threw straight punches and avoided slugging it out with him. He didn't outbox Margarito - he just knocked him silly ... that's not compared to what Paul Williams or Joshua Clottey did against Margarito.

His footwork should've gotten him out of his fight with Wright the first time, he moved in straight lines and threw wide punches.
