Hahahahaha I just found this quote from Jackson after he lost to Jimmy Slade,

"Im glad I lost, my mother kept telling me when to go to bed. She treats me like a baby.":lol::lol:

All this stuff is hilarious, and Ive heard and it and read it all before from John and other sources...

but I have to throw this out there..

For a man with such a weird uninteresting bizarre style...it was MIGHTY effective on the world class level. Jackson beat the following top 10 fighters Ezzard Charles 2x, Bob Baker 2x, Dan Bucceroni, Clarence Henry, Rex Layne 2x. Say what you want, but that is a VERY impressive win resume.

For Seamus to call Jackson a "shitty" fighter is ignorance beyond belief..and an insult to those world class men whom lost to Jackson.

You want a shitty fighter? It's albert dragon sosnowski. A Bum.

"Shitty boxer" then. The New York Times said as much a few times. You want quotes?

Charles was pretty shot, Baker and Layne never were much but placeholders in bad era's. Hell, Ruiz took a lot of scalps and he was kinda shitty, too. Effective but shitty.

Beats the hell outta me, SQ. The real Jackson was exposed against Nino Valdes. Think there's a YouTube of it.

He was so shitty and getting beat so badly in his fights that the New York State Boxing Commission tried to force his retirement at AGE 26!

Face it, he was nothing more than a durable punching bag.

Does the above refer to Jackson, S? If it does, Tommy was all that 'n a HELLUVA LOT MORE! Some of the guys he beat down were serious BADASSES 'n could crack. Fighting him was like shooing-away fire ants.

Then how did he manage to beat Ezzard Charles 2x, Bob Baker 2x, Dan Bucceroni, Clarence Henry, Rex Layne 2x? All top 10 fighters, and all good fighters.

This is incorrect. Layne was compared to Jack Dempsey by some writers, and was picked as the favorite to be the next heavyweight champion on his way up in 1951. He started out 34-1 and upset future Heavyweight Champ Jersey Joe Walcott. He also managed a big victory over Ezzard Charles. Layne was very highly regarded early in his career.

Baker was a highly decorated amatuer, who came into the pros and won his first 25 matches. His talent and skill level were extremley highly regarded by papers. Baker was viewed as a genuine threat to Ezzard Charles/Jersey Joe's crown in the early 1950s. Baker would crack the top 5 in the Ring Magazine throughout the early-mid 1950s. Very Worthy of a title shot. When Patterson asked Damato in 1955 if he could fight Baker, Damato repiied "when your ready to fight heavyweights, Ill let you know. But never against someone like Baker."

John perhaps you can chime in on Layne and Baker? they are being sold short here.

Layne, in his salad days, S, may not've been elegant, but he could drop an ox with his right. That punch was NO JOKE.

Baker had EVERY TOOL, plus accuracy 'n pop, but what was not commonly known -- 'n it was his undoing -- he had fragile hands. Was always nursing 'em in the gym, wearing three layers of sweat clothes 'n towels around his neck on the hottest days. He looked like the Michelin Man, pouring sweat.

He wasn't exactly unathletic or uncoordinated but another bizarre Heavyweight contender was Mike "The Bounty" Hunter.

He was a good boxer who utilized a unique defensive style and had great natural talent but was also crazy as a shithouse rat.He learnt to box in jail and tread a fine line between fighter and felon for the entrity of his career owing to a heavy drug addiction.

That aside he had some good wins over the likes of Pinklon Thomas,Oliver McCall,Alexander Zolkin and came to Austalia to badly expose the limitations of James Thunder.

Sadly Hunter got himself killed by Police in a drug sting gone wrong thus putting an end to the life of one of the 90's more bizarre characters.
