To add to the Holmes’ ledger of memorable fights, I enjoyed the Cooney fight, watching it live on closed circuit. The all time great Holmes - Norton classic also illustrated that a great fight doesn’t require knockdowns or knockout to attain that accolade.
Watching Marciano chase a bunch of geriatrics around the ring is about as scintillating as watching grass dry after a rain.
Well, yeah. Absolute wars, please. When you watch a horror film do you find it more or less entertaining if there's absolutely no chance anyone gets remotely hurt? It's the game and if it is going to pay the bills, it has to be entertaining. Blood and thunder fights are more entertaining. If we don't like that, then maybe boxing isn't for us.
I'm both. I enjoy the wars but am absolutely enchanted by the surgical precision of Joe Louis, Ali or Holmes plying their trade.
Holyfield. Okay, just joking. As many have mentioned, I would rate Wladimir Klitschko as the most boring ever. This was always a source of great frustration to me, as he had very good skills and was a monstrous puncher. Another heavyweight I always found boring to watch was Michael Moorer, even though he had that excellent slug fest with Bert Cooper. I never could figure out why I didn't like MM, he had good skills and good power. Just something about the way he boxed turned me off.
Wlad took the world HW championship , the once greatest prize in sport and made it as revelant as a badminton tournament. His defences were relegated to Epix and Eurosport..
Wlad was watched by tens of millions people every time he fought. Just because Americans and Brits were butthurt cause he beat all of their hopes, doesn't mean he was "as revelant as a badminton tournament".
