Which one do you think gets the most crap? most of it undeserved? Joe Calzaghe - Retired with a perfect 46-0 record, probably the greatest Super Middleweight of all time. (if JMM is an ATG, Calzaghe is definitely an ATG lock) Bernard Hopkins - 46 years old and still fighting and beating the best, oldest middleweight champion with the record for most middleweight defences, when it's all said and done will probably ranked top 5 middleweights of all time. (ATG lock) Floyd Mayweather JR - One of the most naturally gifted fighters of his generation currently with a perfect 41-0 record a 5 weight champion. (ATG lock) David Haye - One of the best Cruisers since Holyfield, unified the division before moving up to heavyweight and winning a world title. Other notable achievements include making the Klitschko brothers and fans feel insecure. (HOF most likely)
I don't see the necessary names on Haye's resume to call him elite. Of the 3, Calzaghe definitely is the most desrespected, Mayweather has a lot of supporters and Hopkins isn't really disrespected just disliked, but not very much lately.
Calzaghe is NOT disrespected. Everyone with VISION and a WORKING BRAIN can see through the cloud of bull**** that is his WEAK-ASS RESUME!!!! And especially when his fans come in here and try like hell to elevate his Greatness and Resume solely based what his previous opponents do in the future. Hopkins beats a younger Pavlik and draws with a younger Pascal....all of a sudden this somehow translate into Calzaghe being ATG based on what Hopkins, Kessler, Bika and other previous opponents do in the future...GET THE **** OUT OF HERE!!!! Floyd's entire resume get shitted on DAILY in here. In a thread I created well over a year ago....I said that Floyd Mayweather will go into the HOF as THE MOST DISRESPECTED BOXING IN HISTORY. Now with that being said...Floyd does himself NO FAVORS with his Behavior/Antics!!!
Example: Sergio Martinez got spanked by Margarito years ago. And now Martinez is Top 3 P4P. Yet no-one is trying to elevate Margarito's resume/status based on Martinez being an TOP ELITE-LEVEL FIGHTER. Why? Because people/posters/fans know that what Margarito has accomplished in the sport doen't NEED ANY HELP from fans trying to pull the wool over everyone eyes based on what his previous opponents do in the future...STRAIGHT BULL**** MOVE!!!!
Martinez was still developing mate. Floyd gets not appreciation due to his antics! Calzaghe may not have the greatest resume, but he's been the underdog most his carrer, Eubank - he was supposed to lose, Lacy - he was supposed to get schooled, Kessler - he was supposed to get his ass handed to him, Hopinks - he was supposed to get beat. People then made excuses for Hopkins saying he was past it etc. then he beat Pavlik - yes that makes Calzaghe's win even better.
I'd have to say Mayweather. Due to his change in mentality since being a welterweight, his exploits in the lower weights have been forgotten by most. But the disrespect he gets, is often warranted. As for the others: Haye - Deserves the disrespect Calzaghe - Definitely deserves the disrespect. Hopkins - Disliked more than disrespected. Those that dislike him, still recognize him for the incredible fighter he is.
Problem with Mayweather is he hasn't fought anyone who could give him a good fight in 10 years, and those that could he's ducked them. I understand why Haye gets **** but I honestly don't get why Calzaghe gets ****, I think most of it is from bitter Hopkins fans but can you please elaborate why Calzaghe should be disrespected?
Haye isn't an elite fighter. Calzaghe gets my vote, prime Kessler and Hopkins are two excellent wins no matter what anyone says. Lots of *******s don't give Mayweather his due either, he could have fought better opposition in the last few years but Hatton and DLH are good wins.
I think 10 years is going too far. If we are to begin criticizing Mayweather, it should be done since he became a welterweight. How you can operate in deeply talented division with the likes of Margarito, Cotto and Williams, and not fight one of them, is very disappointing for a man of his gifts. As for Calzaghe, my discontent for him arises from a mixture of the man himself, and some of his deluded fans. For someone who regards himself as the greatest Brit fighter ever and an ATG worldwide, its friggin embarrassing that it had to take him 15 years and 44 fights to make that move to the US to fight an elite opponent. And even then, he only did so because one was a good 3/4 years past his prime, and the other was ridiculously shot. During his peak years he was a nobody fighting limited opposition inside the UK, and showed no desire in taking a risk to go to the US and fighting primed guys like Hopkins, Jones, Toney etc. These are elite fighters who you must face if you want to be regarded as a legend. But he showed no balls to do it.
The only time Americans took notice of Calzaghe was after the Lacy fight, no one before that would give him a chance and having Warren as your promoter probably didn't help things. To say Hopkins was past his prime is silly, its very hard to judge hopkins, he just recently whooped a younger guy that was supposed to beat him and this younger guy beat Dawson (who was supposed to be the best) and gave Froch one of the fights of his life.
If he doesn't know this...then he should be in a Website Forum created for the HARDCORE BOXING FAN!!!!
