The safest, quickest and most effective way to end a street fight is with a KO punch, so yeah, boxing is pretty useful. Even if you just know the basics you soon realise how easy is it to hit someone who is isn't trained, so some wind milling drunk on a Friday night shouldn't be too much trouble. A word of warning though, if you are a weak p*ssy with no natural fighting ability what so ever, then you will always be a weak p*ssy with no natural fighting ability what so ever. Training will help and improve you, but some people just suck at fighting, no matter how much they train and will still end up getting their a*sses handed to them by untrained people if these untrained people are, unlike them, naturally tough and aggressive.
So putting someone TO SLEEP by HITTING them in THE HEAD and SWITCHING OFF THEIR BRAIN is the SAFEST way to end a fight? In a street as well? Jesus... Besides, do you know how hard it is to KNOCK A PERSON OUT WITH A SINGLE BLOW? Very hard. Grappling is more effective due to the ratios. Much easier to get taken down to be laid out with a single blow. @ IB - No, the reason why grappling is more effective is because 99.9% of the time in a fight you will end up in a clinch.
Not really that hard, it doesn't take a lot to knock someone out (I'm not sure about how much force but I know it's nothing special, you can even get KO'd from a good slap). In the pros it's different because guys keep their chin tucked, have good defense, can see and ride shots, there's gloves. In a street fight with bare knucles, I don't think it'd be hard for a boxer to knock a regular dude out at all.
99.9%, huh? You have some hard scientific, peer-reviewed data on that? (of course the answer is no, because no real scientists are going around doing anything so frivolous as conducting controlled experiments or even rigorously observing trends in street fight outcomes) For every anecdotal World Star video you can throw out depicting two goofballz ending up rolling around on the pavement, I can produce one (at least) depicting two other goofballz trading unskilled strikes until one gets clipped and goes to sleep.
Kicks are underrated in a street fight. Kick someone with a nice kick to the knee joint ( a bit sadistic), and the fight is most likely over. Also the best fighters in my junior high and high school were high level wrestlers.
Safest for you, grappling and going to ground is filled with danger. Plus it doesn't have to be a head shot, a good liver shot, which is very easy to land on someone who doesn't know what they are doing, will put someone down and they aren't getting back up in a hurry.
Oh I know (someone throwing the boot in when you are down etc), but how many people throw body shots in a street fight? Rarely happens, although you make a great point with about them! :good
People rarely use them, but more importantly, people will not expect them. Anyone who does any combat sport, especially boxing, soon finds out the hard way how devastating a good liver shot is and your average, untrained, unconditioned man on street is going to be wide open to one, will not see it coming and will not take it. Plus a liver shot will put someone down without risking knocking them out, them banging their head, being seriously hurt or even killed and you going to jail.
Self defence is different from martial arts - there is no art form about it. Styles like KFM and Krav Maga are very effective because they concentrate on simple moves in real life situations (train Krav Maga, you will likely get padded up and jumped by another student. You will get hurt if you don't defend, but you learn) If you want to use self defence, you need to train in an environment that replicates the street. Your body needs to get accustomed to the surge of adrenaline that prevents fine motor function and reasoning. It's this surge that sends trained martial artists into street brawlers in many situations. Martial arts are effective against other martial artists, and you are more likely to break your hand than knock someone out
