    it has to be someone who was being beat-up or having a hard time the previous or early rounds and was able to adjust his gameplan to pull through with the victory.

    it could be something ike a styles disadvantage at the beginning of the fight and was able to offset it by ad******g your style and/or having planned tactic.

    also where you are beaten before by a guy and making some adjustments in your next fight to turn the tables around.

    no i dont think he was taking them intentionally. hearns was certainly controlling with his distance very effectively. and after a slight lapse (round 7 it must've been) he went back to sticking and moving to great effect.
    no what i meant was, rather than getting desperate, ray was patiently plotting his movements to get in there and eating alot of jabs along the way. i mention this fight (in answer to the thread) cos it was probably the first fight i saw where i actually realised how deeply tactical boxing could be......

    I was always under the impression that the concenus is that Benny Leonard had the greatest boxing brain in ring history.

    He had a knack of being able to find a way to win. He must also be one of the coolest grounded fighter also. His brain was always working and he never panicked.
