Its a mannerism that I used to hate about Eubank, they use speaking slowly to try and add gravitas to what they are saying rather than the actual content doing it.

 

jim neilly takes the biscuit, the most annoying, biased and irritating commentator ever. If woodhall wasn't alongside him in the olympics it would've been just unbearable

 

Bit harsh on bunce, although i see your point he does just seem to be trying to get one over on the commentators everytime.

 

i hate commentators that are watching a classic, but just seem to not be interested like the top rank commentators, the will talk about everything exept the fight and will talk over eachother (usually three of them)

 

The Top Rank commentators are rubbish. Merchant is way better than that twat Kellerman who's just an egostical *****.

Buncey is decent but he's more likely to appeal to the casual fans.

 

funny stuff by the thread starter however bunce does way more for boxing and for the fans than all the other guys put together and how they have jobs i dont know, bunce needs a pay rise imo

also why has jimmy magee and jim watt not been mentioned, my surround sound never gets used when these two are commentating

 

Too harsh on Buncey imo. He brings us a packed and decent show every week. How people can consider him arrogant is beyond me. He actually reads what people write on a website unconnected to his show and promises to implement any suggested changes, how many others can we say the same for?

As for him not giving opinions on fight strategies, I'm relieved he doesn't try to do this. Bunce was never a pro himself so cannot comment on tactics and strategies. There's nothing worse than when somebody who is not qualified to give an opinion tries to do so. I always cringe when Paul Dempsey gives his opinion on what a fighter should do and how he thinks the fight will turn out, no one gives a **** what you think mate, leave it to the pros!

I was just talking about Lionel Rose the other day in Liverpool when Alan Rudkin's name popped up. I said it was a close decision and bang...out of the blue Lionel Rose starts to give me stick. I will be careful in the future - I'm getting abuse from the other side.
And, not so much of that 'fat arse' caper.

I'm a big fan of the Eurosport duo of Holdsworth and Mee. Both have a huge wealth of hardcore boxing knowledge and they call a fight nice and calmly without feeling the need to tell me exactly every punch that is being thrown (fortunately being blessed with sight I am able to see for myself). And they don't get over ecstatic hard-ons and start screaming down the mike as soon as anything intense happens. Really enjoy their commentary and are my favourite team of the current broadcasting crop.

Don't dislike any pundit/commentator in particular. I enjoy Bunce's enthusiasm and tongue in cheek quips. At least the man has personality.
The only commentator I find spoiling fights for me is Sky's Adam Smith. I feel bad for saying it because he does seem like a nice guy and a genuine bloke, but his commentating tone sucks. Everything - EVERYTHING - is said in a tense, dramatic tone in a building crescendo. Like he's the guy who does the voice overs for movie trailers or something. And as soon as anything of note happens he gets way too over-dramatic. Needs to calm down and actually think about what is actually happening instead of making out every little thing is a war for the undisputed championship of the world. He can improve greatly and I hope he does over time.

Reg Gutteridge always was and always will be my all time favourite though.

 

On the American side of things, I really like Al Bernstein.

 

Worst co-commentator ever, Junior Witter.

 

I dislike Mechant, just think he is obnoxious and seems to like arguing with the actual boxers like big George and Roy.

Check out the Eurosport commentary for Jones Jr. vs. Garcia, it puts Alan Partridge to shame.

 

The eurosport guys are hilarious.

They both just go on and on about how crap the boxers are and talk about everything but what is happening in the ring. Brilliant, kinda like the two snooker commentators from the Mitchell and Webb look.
