PBF, Pavlik, Calzaghe etc???......seriously - do some of you ****s know ANYTHING about boxing and it's history?
That´s no explanation. Which tools didn´t Marciano have? Could he compensate not having them? Why do you think he can be outboxed? He never was, even against Top15/20 hws like Charles and Walcott. You think Tyson wouldn´t be able to slow Liston´s slow jab but Patterson could? Both were trained by the same trainer, remember? Liston would beat Tyson by forcing him on the back foot and hammerin´ him with uppercuts. Tyson would beat Lewis, Holmes, Ali? Sorry but no. Lewis knew how to beat Tyson since their sparring session when they were still amateurs. Ali would beat Tyson even before entering the ring. Tyson would crumble mentally due to Ali´s mindgames. Tyson is no Frazier who brought his anger into the ring. And Holmes would jab the head of Tyson. Liston would do better against Lewis and Holmes as Tyson but i agree with the Ali pick. Liston is a bad match-up for Marciano as would be Foreman. These two have just the right style to beat all the great hw swarmers. I agree with you picking Liston above Marciano but he wouldn´t outbox him. Ali would beat Marciano, i agree, but i have to mention that Ali himself said that he was surprised how hard Marciano was to hit when they did the scenes for that computer fight in the 60s. It wouldn´t be an easy fight for Ali. It´s said that Louis himself recognised his weakness were swarmers. Marciano would always beat him. Louis is a relative slow paced fighter and he wouldn´t be able to take the constant pressure and high workrate of Marciano for the full 15 rounds. Holmes has a good shot at beating Marciano, very similar to Ali but it would much closer and he would have an even harder time. That one is more of a 50/50 type fight. With your second mention of Louis i suppose you mean Lewis. Well, he has a very good shot at beating Marciano by mimic the style of Foreman or Ali to beat Marciano but he isn´t as good as Foreman in his game and he isn´t as good as Ali in his so Marciano has a good shot. The physical advantages of Lewis make him the favourite. Tyson on the other hand would lose to all of them and only has a chance with Louis early on. But additionally Marciano would beat Tyson. Marciano would outlast the first rounds and than grind Tyson down to a stoppage somewhere between round 11 and 15. I will come back later for this one. Have to go now.
In recent memory... Michael Grant hands down. He is the epitome of a network creation. (HBO) Being served as the next BIG thing, But eaten as a snack.
Bojado has to be up there. Was supposed to be the first billion dolllar fighter. Everyone thought this kid was the ****, including me but I had one foot off the train when the hype got to crazy levels. Andy Lee comes to mind aswell but thats mostly to do with Manny. I think anyone with a bit of sense could see he was a long way off the things Manny thought were coming to him. It is not good for a kid's head to be hearing all that ****, it makes them complacent and overconfidant. Nothing wrong with being confidant but just like junk food you have to have it in moderation or its bad for you.
Y'all sleepin' on Roy! Roy's resume doesn't look so great because he made everyone else LOOK so damn mediocre and irrelevant. It's ridiculous to even bring him into this conversation.
PBF. His fans rate him as a true Great, when he's never fought an elite fighter in his entire career, so what is the evidence of this Greatness?
Floyd Mayweather Jr. I'm a fan of Floyd, love to see him box, and have no beef with his personality. But he is not near as good as people make him out to be, simple as that.
hmm.... Floyd Mayweather Jr. Ali Joe Calzaghe Kelly Pavlik Samuel Peter Mikkel Kessler Paul Williams Ricky Hatton
This kind of question always brings out some ridiclious answers. Somebody claims Joe Calzaghe is the most overrated fighter of all time, but he only got onto the P4P list by destroying Lacy. His 10 year career as champion before that, nobody outside of Newbridge Wales acknowledged his existance. Joe is not your answer. Floyd Mayweather Jr, although I don't think is half as good as he thinks he is, is not an overrated fighter. He beat everybody put infront of him, and it's true that he should have fought Cotto and Margarito, but in my heart of hearts, I think Floyd beats both of those also. In any event, he was a great fighter, love him or like him. The best one is Muhammad Ali. Perhaps the best thing that has happened to this sport, who cleared out the toughest heavyweight division ever, not once, but twice. C'mon. Anybody saying the man is overrated is just bitter about how well known the man has become outside of the confinds of the hardcore Boxing community. All of his so called bad decisions came at the end of his career against the top contenders, who would probably all be champion today. He went 2-1 frazier, beat Liston twice, Foreman, Patterson, Lyle, Quarry, and the list goes on and on. The man is the greatest heavyweight of all time. Stop being ridiclious. My vote goes to Manny Pacquiao. First of all, I acknowledge that he is a world class fighter but he has things very fortunate since his initial defeat of Barrera. Morales was past his prime, undoubtably, in his two victories over him, and I felt he lost by fights to Juan Manuel Marquez. Regardless of how close they were, I still believe the wrong man won in the second fight, and I think there needs to be a third meeting. Also, the man just beat one of the worst beltholders in Boxing, David Diaz, and ever since that people have been talking about him fighting at 147. Guys, any to 10 147 fighter in Boxing would stop Manny Pacquiao and fairly easily. It's ludicrious.
Floyd is probably the most underrated fighter in recent history. People rate his boxing ability on what they hate about his personality. He comes across as a mutt sometimes, but he is truly one of the greats. The whole "He never fought anyone" argument is pure lame. People are just furious they never had a chance to see him lose, and they will do anything to see him discredited. People paid good money to see him get his ass beat by Oscar, and gladly paid again to see him get beat to sleep by Hatton. Neither happened, so I guess they feel like he owes them something. It's funny reading though.
Muhammad Ali's best wins: Liston, Frazier, Foreman SRL's best wins: Duran, Hearns, Hagler RJJ's best wins: Toney, Hopkins PBF's best wins: Corrales, Castillo, Hatton Spot the odd one out??
Good points. Sure, Tyson's comp wasn't the strongest but the way he dispatched quality fighters like Bruno, Tubbs, Spinks, Berbick, and Thomas was quite impressive any way u cut it. He also outboxed Tony Tucker, who was no worldbeater, but was undefeated at the time and had the physical tools and skills to give him trouble. Tyson outjabbed him, landed enough hard shots down the stretch, and won a clear decision. Tyson keeps getting overrated by many people but the truth is that he beat a solid list of fighters not to mention 2 wins over Razor Ruddock when he wasn't even really interested in his ATG status anymore and fought like boxing was a job rather than his passion. Ruddock was crude but he was a game fighter who could crack and Tyson took his best shots and dished out plenty of his own en route to victory.
