Actually that's debatable. Martin was ranked higher by the WBA. But that's beside the point. Martin was a world class fighter. Literally top ten in the world. Mcbride was.... well McBride. I don't put much into either loss considering Liston and Tyson's respective stages in their career but one was clearly worse than the other.
In addition you also stated "Martin was Ring ranked once in the 60s in 1967, putting him on par with someone like Lionel Butler or Alexander Zolkin after losing their rankings. The Liston fight was 69." which was incorrect. You were wrong.... which seems to be a recurring theme on this forum.
Good points, honestly. I can accept Hatton's win over Tszyu being great. It was an upset. I just wasn't there for it, so I applied the 'inactive Tszyu', 'last fight', 'probably saw the $ and didn't care' type sentiments. Maybe I'm just a Hatton Hater because I find watching him bad. I think the Malignaggi fight didn't tell us anything new. Hatton is a physical fighter and Malignaggi didn't have any tools to deal with Hatton. I didn't come away from that fight super impressed, even though he beat the hell out of Paulie. Hatton at his peak felt so overrated it was ridiculous, even though he turned out to be a really good fighter. In terms of value-for-money, Ricky Hatton is probably the highest grossing fighter of his skill level. Good on him. Mares was being sold as a potential longtime titleholder and he beat Agbeko and 2 other guys before getting smoked in 1 round and never winning a real title again. He certainly wasn't a Tye Fields level hype job, obviously, but Ponce was over it when they fought even if it was a pretty nice win. I can see how both fighters can be considered good, but I feel they were both overrated at their peaks.
I actually won money on a straight odds bet e someone over the Mayweather fight. I think reality TV was just starting to merge w boxing and Hatton excelled at that. Moreno was actually a pfp guy back then. He proved to probably be overrated.
You got caught out blatantly lying you spud just admit it and accept your level. Trying to spin your way out is pathetic.
I didn't edit a damn thing. Anyone with can go back and see your dishonest post for what it is. Good luck with your report.
Not sure the old timers are "Overated", if anything they are more forgotten. Walk on the street and ask any one who Jeff, Gans or perhaps even Jack Dempsey. How can they rank someone when they are near forgotten??
It becomes a fine line over time doesn't it. When i was first here around, i guess, 2004 or 2005 there was a load of posts and talk about Dempsey. From memory, and i could be wrong, he was massively hyped and really bigtime in here. I always find the "overrated" threads awkward and difficult.........and sorta unfair.......unless completely defined and encapsulated. Overrated in what way? Potential H2H standing which is obviously somewhat objective? Is their standing overrated vs what they actually achieved? Are we taking in other impacts outside of boxing i.e. Ali's monumental worldwide standing and impact on boxing, Louis as well in his time, Tyson as well? Also what demographic are we talking? Hardcore fans? No very little people from the street? Perhaps even historians? There's so much to consider.....and it also fluctuates over time as seen in here. There have been a few boxers that have fluctuated up and down in our own little haven. Dempsey right now may well be at his lowest ebb in 18 odd years. His highest may have been right back at the start.....etc.
That is very true my man. I'm 57 now and have a permanent handicap now from a back injury which surgery didn't help. It effects my feet as my S1 nerve is dying BUT I'm still training 4 days a week. I was still sparring at 50 until the injury.
Im pretty sure its already mentioned and if so I agree. Ali is the most overatted boxer in all of history.
I think he’s gone from slightly overrated to moderately underrated tbh In other news, I’m expecting the police at my door any minute for that report. I’m a bad bad man.
That is probably a fair assessment. At least a new trick is in the wind. When someone catches you out in terribly embarrassing circumstances simply claim they edited the quote and pray like crazy no-one goes back a page or two and checks for the lie on top of a lie
