Ali may not be just the most popular boxer of all time...but also the most popular athlete of all time. With all due respect to Tyson, Jordan, Kobe, etc...I just think its even close. Especially from a boxing standpoint.

back then i am not into boxing when i was a kid, the only names i knew about boxing was ali and tyson.

Ali was the most famous even if you make a world wide poll about it everyone would have heard of muhammad ali. Mike tyson is a close second, all in all those 2 are household names. ODLH is not that popular to the average joe

Worldwide athlete it woud be Pele, Jordan and Maradona possibly. You have ot remember outside the US no one gives a **** about the NFL. MLB yea but i dont think the MLB has had a huge name that hits the world. Correct me if im wrong.

None of them are famous on the level Ali was, they are famous athletes, Ali transcends athletics.

 

ALI and PELE....equally the most well known in their respective regions. But since we now have the younger generations, i wont be surprised if most dont know them.

 

Pele is a great answer for most popular athlete ever, I wouldn't argue with that. Ali is near the top though and he's more recognizable/famous than Jordan ever was or will be. No point of even mentioning someone like Joe Montana..
