Who is the most underrated British boxer of the moment and why My personal opinion Ashley Theophane. He is heavily avoided and cant seem to settle into a rhythm of fights and dips back and forth between US and UK. End of the day he beat Demarcus Corley in the US, lost an SD in Texas agaisnt Danny Garcia on a Goldenboy card, might as well be a win I dont know who his promoter is or if he has one but with a decent promoter behind him he might be able to make headway on the fringe world scene at the very least
All-time: John Conteh. Gets overlooked big time. On a slightly lesser level, Alan Rudkin was superb and fought some of the ATG's in P4P boxing and beat ATG fly McGowan; totally skimmed over IMO, was a pain in the arse for some of THE greatest bantamweights ever, in the greatest period of the division, and his opposition is unbelievable: Olivares, Rose, Harada. Takes the **** Today: Ryan Rhodes doesn't get the plaudits he deserves IMO. A tough stylist who has got over some inconsistent patches but doesn't get the same cult following as say, Jason Booth (who is very deserving of the praise he gets)
Tony quigley. I know he has 3 defeats scratched up, but he is strong, and has good boxing ability. i probably wasn't too kind before the smith fight to quigley, but i have to face the truth, and say smigga won a close fight against quigley. he is fighting on the haye undercard, looking forward to that
And Theopane won't do much. The Corley win doesn't mean too much, and if he was World class he would'v. Decisively beaten Garcia, who hasn't impressed me much at all: a supreme feather fist he is :deal
Conteh is overlooked definitely in the all time stakes for British boxers but then again doesnt have a record that was as great as his ability. Quigley has two losses but at the end of the day i think he is the type of fighter that will take on anyone and is probably going to make waves at middleweight but might rack up losses along the way hope he becomes more active. No shame in losing to Cleverley or Smith
Yeah, but still has some quality wins. I can't see Calzaghe competing with Saad as well as Conteh did, put it that way. Dominant one-handed wins over Ahumada and Yaqui Lopez show his insane ability when not even 80%. I'm actually a Calzaghe fan, but also a realist. And the kudos he gets in comparison to Conteh does my head in.
wat bout duke mckenzie. aint seen much footage of him but is a 3 weight world champ and dont really get much praise for that. Fleaman fill us in
