Silky Jones. And not British, but Bones Adams was one of the most underrated fighters i've ever seen.
Duke McKenzie is a good shout. Gets nowhere near the praise his career deserves.Crackin boxer. Very accurate clean puncher. Mate of mine Mark Hargreaves gave Wayne Mccullough all the trouble he could handle but duke just anihilated him.
Yeah I always wondered why a 3 weight World Champion like Duke Mckenzie doesnt get the recognition he deserves Like you I havent seen much of him fight but I bet if he was foreign he would get a lot more recognition.
Agree with you there, the stuff he has come through to get where he is today is well inspiring and that deserves recognition not just his title wins.
Currently i think Kevin Mitchell has been overlooked because of Khan and i think John Murray is more talented than hes been allowed to show.
JMM is awesome and dont really think he is under-rated and think he's probly got 2 or 3 at the most left in him
Olusegun 100% Should be fighter world level guys by now at least to prove his true level. He is above domestic i think. The Lynes fight will show that at least. I just hope that his inactivity is due to them waiting on Hayemaker for some exposure
There was a "Calzaghe-Conteh H2H" thread a while back and people were saying those who picked Conteh were overrating him!!
From what I've seen of McKenzie, he wasn't bad. The whole '3 weight World champ' thing is not regarded as much because, with the amount of different titles he contested for, I don't believe he was ever consistent in his dominance over a division. That's what counts, not needless alphabet straps. People say about Calzaghe '5000 title defences' or whatnot, in another era he'd have been amongst th top four in a division for ten years and only managed to rise to the top late. When you think of it like that, it's obvious why older fighters are often given the higher ranking, hence why Conteh, Lynch, Driscoll, don't get talked about as much. For some reason Wilde always gets a look in. As everyone knows I;m a fan, but his resume was decent rather than mind blowing IMO, though obviously he was very tough and hit hard. I'd rate Driscoll over him personally, and yet Driscoll is more likely to get slated rather than praised on here.
I think I did a thread on Wildes record (or meant to!!) a while back. Its a little short on quality for someone of his standing IMHO.
I agree 100%. Tancy Lee was a good win, but now I've seen his loss to Lee (the first time) I have to think 'wtf?!!?' Wilde is getting bullied around big time, and he was always perceived for his unbelievable strength despite his frame. However, I think both he and Villa come across very well in the footage of their fight. I'd be tempted to rank Villa ahead of Wilde to be honest. His accumulated competition is pretty astounding, and like Wilde, he faced much bigger fighters. Wilde is just kinda' accepted as a lock for the top 20 fighters of all time, and I really don't think that's the case. I also think Benny Lynch would beat him. But definitely a great fighter, somewhere around the top 50. His numbers are impressive, but due to the fact there really isn't any evidence arlound to prove anymore than a few of his opponents were very good, you have to go with what you have. Although it's infinitely more impressive than say, Ricardo Lopez's pithy ring record.
