Pat Cowdell was a four time, three weight ABA Champion, Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist and Olympic Bronze Medallist. As a pro, he held the record for the fastest outright Lonsdale Belt win, was undefeated European Featherweight Champion and got off the floor to take the great Salvador Sanchez to a split decision. Pat tried to leave the sport but came back after an eighteen month break to win the European Super Featherweight Title and was Boxing News Fighter of the Year in 1984. All anyone ever wants to talk about is a horribly weight drained Pat getting iced by the great Azumah Nelson. Many of the guys named on this thread are / were under rated but in my opinion, no Fighter was more under rated than Pat. PS Great to have @mcvey back. Were you at the Albert Hall the night Pat destroyed Jimmy Flint ?
Agree, have spoke to him on many occasions at the LEBA get together, very quietly spoken humble, and a proper gentleman, he asked had I seen him fight live, I had, but unfortunately it was against Bunny Sterling ( underrated ? ) who gave him the mother and father of a hiding, stopped him in 7 or 8 cant remember, damm wasn't going to participate in any more underrated/overrated threads, you drew me in Noel. stay safe buddy.
Sorry for dragging you in Mike but i must say you have many very interesting tales to tell, long may you do so
Agreed, also one of my fav amature fighters alongside, Dave Williams/Robbie Davies/and Neville Cole. stay safe buddy.
Many criticized Bunny Sterling because of his loss to Jean Claude Bouttier on Dec 20 1971 for the European Middleweight Title.
Clinton Woods. There’s been British world champions who did a lot less than Clinton that we hear more about.
