Hard as nails the Finnegans. When you think both went in with all time greats in Hagler and Foster and held their own they weren’t intimidated by anyone. Just that little bit more power in both could have made a difference.
Yes Fast. It was a masterclass by Pat. He broke Flint's heart. I don't reckon anyone on here under rates Jim Watt. He was an excellent Champion.
& Enzo Maccarinelli was a beast at one point. People seem to have forgot since his losses. He had two very solid wins against former WBC champions Wayne Braithwaite and Marcelo Fabian Dominguez, and another couple of good wins vs Mark Hobson, He went into the David Haye fight as joint favourite, bookies couldn't split them.
Good call, Dennis made himself a world class fighter through sheer will power. His trilogy with Harding is always worth a watch.
Yeah you are correct. The hype for Haye was well out of proportion. Like you say, at that point, Haye had done no more than enzo had by then. So I bet money on enzo. Ironically because I believed Haye was overrated by comparison to Enzo! Haye landed first. That’s all.
Woods is a very good shout. Excellent fundamentals with a good engine and bags of courage. Very good Fighter indeed.
Criminally ignored / forgotten. Not always the easiest to watch but the Harding triology was breathtaking.
I love Winstone and agree with the sentiment, but in no way did he deserve the decision against Saldivar in that second fight.
Good shout Noel. On a good day, if i close my eyes and concentrate, I can waft back to 1978 Albert Hall, seat 45, row F, got their late so 12 people had to get up and let me pass, lots of " pest, nuisance, just bloody sat down, " anyway after a couple of mins, all settled, awaiting the nights boxing this being the ABA s and of particular interest to me was the LHW pairing, the combatants were Andries and Devon Bailey, no slouch he had no less than 5 London titles under his belt, mind you Dennis was more than a handful for any LHW in the country, and it was Andries who inflicted a broken jaw on Bailey in a losing effort he then took Baileys place only to lose to the very talented Vince Smith who would go on to win the title . Scroll forward 6 years and him and Bailey meet again at Shoreditch in a british title encounter, whereby Bailey was worn down and stopped by the incessant pressure of Andries and stopped in the last round, he was a force to be reckoned with, crude, and clumsy at times, but he had an unbending will to win, and nether knew when he was beaten, a true blue collar champion, who should be very proud of his achievements. stay safe buddy.
I disagree on the last sentence. Haye baited Enzo into making a mistake, and it worked. Having said that, you are right to say that Enzo is underrated these days. He defeated Wayne Braithwaite, who was a former belt holder, who beat a future lineal champion in his next fight. At his best he was dangerous.
Enzo looked especially dangerous beating up Bobby Gunn in a round. Made a right mess of him. I think Gunn was a bare knuckle champion.
