I was just thinking about the Scott Quigg fight coming up as I'd not heard much from him since he moved across the pond. It's hard to tell If It's paying off for him just yet, his last fight wasn't much to go by. It made me think of a few questions, mainly from a boxing perspective than the promotional and financial reasons a fighter may relocate. Do you think it's generally a good idea for a British fighter to move to the USA because of the quality of gyms and sparring? What current British fighters do you think it might benefit? Are there any past fighters that made the switch who probably should have stayed on these shores? Interested to hear what people think.
Quigg wasn't a draw in the UK and the gym he was at wasn't gonna teach him new tricks, so i think it was a good idea for him.
Hasn't worked for Quigg. He's regressed if anything. Unless he beats Valdez he is in trouble. He has to win this one....I'm picking Valdez personally.
He had no respect for their power so didn't care about defence. Judge him after the Valdez fight. I think he's gonna beat Valdez. Going to the USA didn't work for your boys Michael Conlan and Jason Quigley they are back already!
I think our top coaches are as good as those in America. Have we ever had more world class coaches at any given time ? Different fighters are better with different coaches. Joe G is obviously very good but if Quigg wanted a change i think stylewise his old Promoter Ricky Hatton would have been ideal.
He got hit way too much in those fights though. Also he has lost power too. Unless OV leaves his brain at home he should outbox Quigg. U r right conlan and quigley boomeranged back home. I think conlan is overrated but is stil.l very good. Quigley is good too. Both will probably continue the time-honoured tradition of tougher Irish boxers beating up softie Brits.
Do you think Amir Khan mad a smart move going to the Wildcard gym and then Hunter's or would he have done better under any British Trainers?
Quigg, Selby, Degale moves their careers there and pretty much became anonymous at home. Two world champions couldn’t shift 6000 tickets between them on the same show! Obviously it can be good for you learning wise but I think you’ve got to remain active on the home scene too. Also going up and down the country to all the different gyms (except Gallaghers) you would learn a few things. Would it be better to just do this?
I can see Valdez beating Quigg. Have you heard him in interviews recently? I know he’s not the sharpest tool in the box but he sounds punch drunk since his last few fights.
Doesn't matter who trains Khan- you can't coach a chin and no matter who the trainer is, whenever he gets tagged he's going to resort to "having a tear up", with predictable unconsciousness inducing results.
