Muhammad Ali-Jeff Shelburg in '82?

I just read a reference to an Ali comeback fight, post Berbick, against Jeff Shelburg in Salt Lake City.. It seemed the reference was all wrong timeline wise. Did this occur?

 

I do recall,

Muhammad Ali wanted to fight British Heavyweight - John L. Gardner in Honolulu, Hawaii.

But he was turned down by the Hawaii Boxing Commission.

Then he tried Caracas, Venezuela - Lima, Peru - Santiago, Chile - Buenos Aires, Argentina - Sao Paulo, Brazil
but was turned down everywhere in South America.

 

I really thought Ali should have kept going. He showed a lot against Berbick but was robbed.

I think Muhammad Ali could have gotten into the ring for at least another
3 or 4 years.

But, the United States and Foreign Country Boxing Commissions was 'jaded' against him.

The kept saying he had 'neurological damage', but I think it was political.

 

I always call him the Uncrowned King. He could have held the title till Bowe.

 

Maybe not all the way to Riddick Bowe.

Of course, the bout with Larry Holmes was 'fixed', to set up a 'rematch'.

You know, the 'pill thing' with the weight loss method.

I think Larry Holmes only had another good 15 rounds in him that night when the
fight was stopped after 10-Rounds.

Muhammad Ali would have taken Larry out in the 26th Round.

 

He should have fought Joe Frazier again, in 1982.

They were both beyond repair already, soup for brains.

 

Whats new? Legend Y chromosone and Pepe le *****, two wrinkly old bitter small pasty ***** sporting, KKK era enthusiasts hating on Ali

I do remember. The projected John L Gardner fight was due to take place in early 1981. Owing to Gardner's limitations,Ali would have beaten him,imo. By a creaky points verdict.

 

I've rarely taken a look at the Ali-Berbick fight - I just don't like watching great fighters so horribly past their peak - but is it fair to say the Ali of the Berbick fight beats Jeff Shelburg ?

 

Muhammad Ali was supposed to fight Randall 'Tex' Cobb in Bermuda in December 1981.

But Randy broke his arm, and Trevor Berick was summoned to fill in.

Not sure Muhammad Ali had enough left to defeat John L. Gardner.

The Hawaii Boxing Commission said, Ali failed the preliminary Doctor's exam.

His reflexes were poor, and his speech was slurred, as per The Honolulu Register.

 

He speech was very noticeably slurred from about 1979 onwards.
It was probably noticeable earlier.

 

An Ali-Frazier IV could have happened. If they had won their fights against Trevor Berbick and Floyd Cummings. Let's thank God that it DID N'T occur.
