Povetkin was giving AJ all he could handle when got caught with a right hand, Ali didn`t have AJ`s power.

Ali has the highest IQ ring in the history of HWs imo. He would have found a winning strategy both for Joshua and for Povetkin.

Right, and he kept slipping because he had incredible 15 round endurance (obviously not the same in round 15 as in round 1, but he was still working in the championship rounds).

I don't feel Povetkin has the endurance to keep up with Ali's movement, slip, throw his own punches, all with his nose messed up from the jabs he did take. He's gonna lose every round after a certain point, and some before that.

I think Ali was fairly technically sound. There's a difference between getting away with not knowing the rules (or having in the arsenal only one shot like Wilder f.e.) and, instead, knowing the rules but choosing when and how to break them. Defensively Ali was a monster imo. He was almost never off balance when moving his head at insane and unconventional angles, knew how to judge the range so as to not expose his steel chin to hard punchers and had a very good (and underrated) punch power. You can tell that as rounds progressed, he'd start baiting counters and timing the right punches over them. "Post-exile" Ali sat down on his punches and gave more looks with his guard, since he had to. He wasn't the most conventional and had his share of casualties from leaning back after dropping the right before throwing it (most notably that left hook from the likes of Cooper, Bonavena, and Frazier), but he was sound and smart all the same

Ali would dance Povetkin's legs off and probably KO in the later rounds.
Povetkin is a talented journeyman but nothing more than that. He is a
poor mans Earnie Shavers & Shavers would beat him early.

Lol, if shavers didn’t punch hard he would’ve been a call up journeymen. Povetkin is levels above him

Whenever one thinks that the bottom has been reached, there's still more dross in the barrel to scrape out.

Povetkin is far. far better than Shavers.

Yeah whatever. Povetkin is going nowhere, will not win his next fight and would not have a chance in hell against Ali.

This is still an actual discussion?

Povetkin still hasn't managed to win a single belt in a very long career despite fighting in a watered down era with 4 belts and having gotten multiple title shots. He has gotten dropped by mediocre fighters like Price and Whyte. I mean Whyte is a wild swinging brawler with little amateur experience and he nearly decapitated Povetkin twice before dropping his guard and walking into a shot. Povetkin went to war with a literal cruiserweight cave man like Huck but he's gonna be too big and strong for Ali with an extra 10 lbs of fat? Are people forgetting Ali is taller with longer arms and is no slouch in the strength department either being able to easily tie up very strong boxers? The inexperienced robotic Joshua brutally stopped him. Wladmir completely neutralized his offense and tied him up.

The problem with Povetkin is he's a well rounded jack of all trades and a master of none. Other than his hook and left uppercut, nothing really stands out that makes you drop your jaw. Just a solid guy with good fundamentals. In other words, Ali doesn't have to think twice or guess what he'll do. A very straight forward and predictable opponent.

Anyone thinking Povetkin is knocking Ali out aside from a 1 in 100 punchers chance is simply an idiot or they don't know **** about boxing. Ali had one of the best chins of all time, high pain tolerance, and an insane will to win. That might not even become a factor seeing as Ali was also the fastest heavyweight of all time. A prime Ali will land 2-3 punches and be in a completely different spot of the ring before Povetkin could land more than 1 glancing blow. Do People not realize Povetkin's extra flab and weight means it will be even harder for him to cut tbe ring off and catch up to Ali? Povetkin wasn't exactly a speed demon either and fought on his heels for the most part. You can forget about him slowing down Ali with body shots of Chuvalo and Foreman pounded away at his mid section and Ali continued to taunt them.

This thread has provided some of the most brainless and uninformed analysis I've seen in a while.
