To be fair, you've opened my eyes to looking at it differently.
I never thought about it that way that the knockdown might be legit but being counted out wasn't, I just lumped the whole thing together as being fake.

You are absolutely right. The ending did no good for Ali, Liston or boxing. Round the globe boxing fans read about the fight. Danish Newsporter EkstraBladet raporting from ringside gave an accurate description of the punch ending the fight: "Cassius Clay hit Sonny Liston with a short right hand so fast that most people in the audience did see the punch". The other newspapers just followed in the footsteps of the Newsbullitins claiming the fight looked as if it was fixed.
Personaly I think Alis was robbed of his chances to impress and end the fight with two more knockdowns. I´ve seen the fightfilms and there´s none evidence of the punch not hitting Liston.

I think the punch could have drop Liston, but not put him down for the count. The problem really was Walcott screw up. Every says Liston thown the fight, but that is hard on Sonny, since he was never "counted out". He didn't even got a 1. With Ali not going to his corner, and Nat calling Walcott over saying Liston was down longer than the ten count, and other stuff. After the knockdown, I think Walcott should have let the fight go on since Liston didn't get the benefit of a count on the part of Ali.

What Walcott really should have done was Disqualify Ali.
It took Walcott 17 seconds to force Ali into a neutral corner. As soon as Walcott's back was turned, Ali was back in the center of the ring.
Walcott had more than enough grounds to disqualify him for refusal to follow instructions.

All this proves is a majority of posters are so keen to get their own opinions out there they don't even fvcking bother reading what the OP has written.

He didn't say it was a KO punch. He said it was an extremely fast punch, difficult to throw, that knocked Liston over.

Who cares what any other poster THINKS about the outcome? Who cares what the next 10 generations of fight fans THINK about the outcome?

The reality is the punch was thrown, it landed, it legitimately knocked Liston down and the rest of it is all opinion. And opinions are like assholes, everybody has got one.

Who are you addressing, exactly? :huh

Hardly any of my posts have been directed @ the OP, per se. Inevitably this conversation dregs up the "fake punch" talk, as it did indeed here, and those are my intended targets.

To most of the posters on this board, doubting that "KO", is like doubting that Jesus turned water into wine.
If they doubt it, they never say so.
