I love how for years Ali haters *****ed and moaned about Ali getting all of this extra time between rounds against Cooper and then when the split glove conspiracy was debunked and it was proven using both unedited radio and television broadcasts of the fight that there was just a few extra seconds to the round (which can happen naturally in any fight) they had to switch to smelling salts. LOL. There just had to be something to beat Ali up.
My favorite of the 'Ali should have been DQ'd against Liston'. In the first round of a heavyweight title fight. Without a warning or point deduction.
Is this directed at me? Because I'm not an Ali hater nor did I ever give real validity to the split glove theory. You can check old threads. However, Ali was given smelling salts in between rounds, a strict no no by the British board. It's on film. He was under great duress when they were administered. The fight could have been ruled a DQ in Cooper's favor. This was all covered on another thread.
Despite the split/changed glove myth being debunked years ago, there are still people, even now, who actually believe this tired story. Angelo Dundee didn't help either in quashing it completely in interviews. Always denying it, but in the way he said it, leaving the viewer wondering. The film clearly shows the padding flying out in the fifth as Clay (as he was called then) pummelled Our 'enry to win in the round he had predicted. Added to this was the inter round radio commentary when the commentator said the glove would not be changed. Next fight, Liston, and Angelo to the rescue again with the "Ah can't see" incident!
How do you know he didn't have a warning? Walcott spent 17 seconds trying to force Ali into a neutral corner. He may have warned him then. As soon as Walcott's back was turned and well before he signaled the fight to resume, Ali was back in the center of the ring. What does 'flagrant disregard of a referee's instructions" mean?
Ali should have retired with 7 defeats on his record....FOTC, Norton 1 & 3, Young, Spinks, Holmes and Berbick.
atschAwww, swaggie, swaggie, swaggie,.....carefully think about this,...really,....Frazier beat his ass in FOTC, Norton sure as hell won that 1st bout, and the third as well,....by all that's holy Jimmy Young beat him,....Spinks got him, and Berbick won that last fight. C'mon,....just recant on that nonsense and we'll pretend that you never even made that post.
Ali's record includes 5 losses and no draws. Their is not enough evidence to conclude any of his official wins should be losses. Winning close bouts via an official decision does not mean these decisions should be reversed. The Ali haters need to grow up. It's 2016.
