1.Anderson Silva 2.Georges St Pierre 3.Jon Jones 4.Frankie Edgar 5.Dominick Cruz 6.Cain Velasquez 7.Jose Aldo 8.BJ Penn 9.Chael Sonnen 10.Junior Dos Santos Honourable Mentions: Gilbert Melendez, Jon Fitch, Carlos Condit, Shogun Rua, Dan Henderson etc Thoughts? :bbb
In all honesty very good list I'd probably have Melendez ahead of JDS but even that is close. Maybe even Hendo again above both.
Aldo's still in the top 5. Florian made for an ugly, spoiling sort of fight. You can't look good every time, especially with an opponent like that.
Dude looked lethargic in his last two fights and these are against the barely above gatekeepers of the UFCs lower divisions. Yes Kenny is near gatekeeper, the guy moved down to try to steal a belt at 145 because hes run out of options.
Do you think he looked good last time? For me Aldo has turned in two performances in a row not befitting of a top 5 guy. He's still a top fighter, but Dominick Cruz is clearly performing much better than him, while Edgar's last two opponents/four fights have been light years ahead of Aldo's opposition, and Edgar is 3-0-1.
Machida shouldn't be too far off especially if I was to be honest with myself and say he deserved the win over Jackson.
Ability-wise Machida would be in my top 10, but I don't think he has top 10 momentum. Hendo is a fair call, but I don't think the lhw's he fought in Strikeforce are as good as the top UFC lhw's.
Sonnen is an interesting inclusion... I would have had Hendo in there before Sonnen but it's a solid list
I thought Aldo looked very good against Hominick aside from the last round, where he seemingly got careless after once again hurting him and was taken down. He was just too too fatigued at the time to do much about it. He pulled it off, though. Cruz definitely had a tougher time with Faber than did Aldo, that much is clear.
Disagree with you on this one El. I think Cruz has been transcendent in his last two, think Aldo has been underwhelming in his last two, hence a p4p switch in fortunes on my list.
Of Hendo's last four, he's impressed vs Babalu and a possibly shot Fedor. Feijao was a good win but I don't really rate him, and before that there was the loss to Jake Shields. I wouldn't argue with anyone who has Hendo in their top 10, but Sonnen's last 4 performances (Marquardt, Silva, Okami, Stann) have been better IMO.
