My shortlists for Fight of the Year (domestic and international)

First fight on both lists for me... has anyone got a link to the dunne fight.

Good fights should not get on a shortlist for FOTY IMO.

And please, I like all types of boxing fights - I wouldn't be a proper fan if I didn't.

overrated Frochs skill level is terrible

 

Froch/Taylor was nothing special. Froch looked awful for 6 rounds, then he got better, but there were no particularly enthralling exchanges. It was a slightly better than average fight except for the late dramatics.

Skelton/Rogan was a pub brawl.

 

Losfer surely the skills displayed in the fight should add to the enjoyment

 

Wlad vs Chagaev was a thrilling fight, I mean Wlads skill set is quite high

Enjoying or appreciating something is not what makes a fight of the year. We probably enjoy nearly every fight to some extent because we love the sport.

There has to be plenty of engagement and it needs to be fairly competitive. IMO they are the prerequisites.

It also helps if there is plenty of drama and a good skill level on display too (IMO, some disagree and go for the bar room brawls which is a matter of taste)

I suppose you could have a 'schooling' type fight as a candidate, but it would have to be something out of this world I reckon.

I went for Dunne/Cordoba because I think it encapsulated everything. Both are good boxers, both stood and fought, knockdowns and drama aplenty and such a dramatic finish. It was also really close throughout, and the atmosphere just topped it off.

 

I don't see how anyone could have enjoyed any of Wlad's recent fights.

He bores me absolutely shitless, even though his KO % is like 80-odd - he must be the most boring high KO ratio fighter ever.

His brother isn't much better, but at least he is willing to get in there and fight, not just jab and do that gay hand slapping that was on show in the Iggy fight.

I know it sounds awful, but I cannot wait until someone detonates on his chin again. I like the guy personally, but as a fighter :zzz

 

So you didn't enjoy watching JT in the Froch fight? I did- then Froch pulled off a hell of a comeback. Anyone who says that they didn't like that fight is just picking holes in other people's arguements. It was an incredibly entertaining fight and not on Ishy's list so I pointed it out as he asked for recommendations.

List your recommendation then we'll see what everyone else thinks...:good

 

Best Domestic:

Crolla v Sykes (a real 50-50 fight between to good prospects, that in itself is a rarity, and I really found this one hard to score as it was so close)

Best international fight:

Dunne v Cordoba

Although, Adrian Diaconu v Jean Pascal would be my second choice this was an intriguing fight and Pascal really showed his class against a very dangerous opponent in Diaconu.
