Tell God to stop fighting them setups. His second to last defense was suspect. His last defense was disgraceful. Gorjux wasn't even ranked by the WBC last August(they rank the top 40), yet somehow he jumped exactly to number 10. Of course well know that you have to ranked in the top 10 to get a title shot. Mijares needs to stop disgracing the WBC belt with these garbage defenses.
The top tier need to fight Mijares, he's quite intimidating, especially since none of them have much of a chance, including top names like Castillo and Montiel.
A better jab, yes, but not better off the back foot like Pernell. He's also not comparable to Pernell's level, but neither is Floyd Mayweather. Pernell Whitaker>Everything in current boxing, except JC, he's special, but he's fading.
Compare some vid, there are few people who have Mijares' speed and power of jab, combined with accuracy. Mijares' jab is absolutely punishing and is pin point.
What about the second and third tier fighters? Are they avoiding him too? Is he so intimidating that his handlers have to pay off WBC officials so that he can defend his title against D level fighters(I'm being generous to Gorjux here)?
Stay busy fights, we hear that Montiel is in talks, unification. A lot of 2nd tiers don't want to get pummeled, it's one thing to get KOed or beaten up, it's another to get totally thrashed and ruined by a guy who's no KO puncher, but hits with a high amount of stinging and damaging shots. Kikui by the way classifies as a '3rd tier'.
SOMEONE explain to me why people don't rely on lists like this for comparative purposes instead of the widely-used accomplishment-driven p4p format? This is soooooo much better. "Beat the man to be the man" and obsession with big name commodity fighters makes the whole p4p conversation not merely unattractive to me, but REPULSIVE and an utter waste of time. Antonio Tarver would NEVER be on a top ten most talented list. But he sure as **** was up there in people's p4p for a while. Which format does that speak more highly of?
Because most people believe what they are fed. I hate the whole logic of 'so and so never defeated a P4P ranked fighter and therefore cannot be considered an amazing talent yet', when Hopkins and Wright are both still in the P4P rankings, yet totally undeserving and will not give shots to younger talents wanting acclaim to begin with. In circle fighting ****s over P4P horribly. If P4P was really ranked on ability and talent and constantly refreshed, then I truly believe that better fights would be made if the media backed it up, because you'd have all seeking this type of acclaim and wishing to fight whoever breaks into it, this we'd HAVE Pac vs. Guzman since Guzzy would be considered one of the world's best current fighters in the hands of correct minds. Am I wrong? Floyd wouldn't be fighting ****ing Hatton if we could assess 'the best' correctly?:yep Maybe be fighting Cotto? A challenge?:yep
Stay busy fights huh? Well Kikui was a good stay busy fight, it did last 10 rounds. But what about Gorjux? This guy probably isn't even top 100 in the division. If this was supposed to be a stay busy fight, then Mijares' handlers failed. This fight only last 1 round.
1st off Amsterdam SSM isn't a superior boxer what so ever:nono He's a boxer brawler who faced w/a lesser opponent looks good as a boxer but make no mistakes about him! Now back to the nonesense of him sending Floyd, or Guzman in a shell. I don't think. Guys go into a shell because of lack of confidence, niether one of these guys lack it. Cotto would find himself eating alot of leather. Yes he'd keep coming forward, but Floyd been in there w/Castillo in his prime, and that man couldn't do it to an injured Floyd. Cotto certainly won't do it to an injury free Floyd. Both Floyd and Guzman fight very welll of the ropes unlike Shane, or Judah, or Malinaggi(wrong spelling) Focus and mental stamina also plays a big part so that so I don't see this happening to either fighter! He would need to gain the upper hand and I doubt that's going to happen!!
Precisely, and this is why I assess resume's differently than most. I believe how a fighter reacts to opposing styles and variety means a whole lot, since Hopkins excelled at this at the B level, I rate him as an all time elite fighter, one of the greats, even with the recent disgusting behaviour. His win over Tarver means something only because he made Tarver look like the level he was, again showing something for Hopkins, but as a 'name' and talent, Tarver means little and held the division HOSTAGE for two years, which makes me ill. Better fights would be made under a new format, IMO, we'd also get better resume's. The obssession with big names prevents the best matches from being created.
Cotto is bigger than Castillo, technically superior, better defence, more accurate and holds a much higher workrate with better speed. Thus how he presents immense issue's to Floyd. Floyd is overrated, I hope the match happens and he gets his ass whipped finally.
His resume isn't up there with the best, but in terms of talent and ability, he is damn good. Certainly one of the elite in all of boxing. He just needs to fight the best opposition at 115 to prove it. A fight with Montiel is what we need to see next.
