1st off his better accuracy is because he didn't have Castillo's workrate. Castillo was a much better infighter, and body puncher in his prime! Being bigger had nothing to w/it!
I disagree, someone of Cotto's level wouldn't have struggled with Stevie Johnston level like Castillo did, there are other examples. He's definitely not a better body puncher, Cotto goes to the body like nobody in recent times and has far greater handspeed, hes also more punishing.
Great post. I have had the exact same thoughts on Cotto for a long time. Time and time again people have put me down for daring to believe Floyd to be beatable, but the intelligent and effective pressure of Cotto IMO is a very big risk to Floyd. Too many posters here under estimate the timing of a true boxer puncher like Cotto, much like they did with Kostya Tszyu. Floyds biggest weakness is his inability to throw in combinations, and this is where Cotto beats him, as it is one of his biggest strengths.
Cotto is noticeably quicker also, both on the hands and feet, and is a much better boxer. Cotto is a boxer puncher where as Castillo was really a pressure fighter. Cotto if he utilises his timing and combination punching can definitely box with Floyd, as well as hurt him with effective pressure. It is intelligent pressure that is needed to beat Mayweather, as it severely limits his countering opportunities.
Well let's agree to disagree. Johnston was an excellent boxer w/great defense someone Cotto has yet to go up against, and a prime Castillo was wicked to the body! Floyd is a defensive genius, and Cotto would have tons of trouble trying to locate him for a solid flush shot. he would have that same problem w/a faster defensive minded Johnston at 135lbs! I'm not knocking Cotto in the least, I think he's very good. He's brutal, and punishing, but a good fighter w/defense, great movement, and intelligence would be a very long night for him! I love his determination. I just want to see him in there w/a guy like the type of fighter I mention who also has tons of confidence!
:nono :nono As good as Cotto looked boxing w/SSM will as bad as he'd looked trying to box w/Floyd. Floyd's boxing is levels above SSM's, and if Cotto were to time him at some point in the fight that would be his only opportunity. Floyd adjust very well. Remember when Judah timed him coming in in the 2nd Rd, well how many times did it happen after that:think Floyd caught on and because of his speed, and intelligence was able to avoid it for the rest of the fight! Floyd's not the type of fighter to fall into traps thru-out a fight!:nono
Same style as Calzaghe incidentally, though they rely on completely different strengths to make that style effective.
Calzaghe is a 'boxer-swarmer', Cotto a classic crouching pressure swarmer, technical however. I think we realise that Calzaghe is one of the greatest ever anyway.
You need to watch more of Cottos career. Fights like against Cesar Bazan he boxed almost the entire fight. He simply adapts to his opponent. He isn't a swarmer because he picks his punches. Hatton is a swarmer. Jeff Fenech was a swarmer. Not Cotto. Cotto uses timing and throws his combinations with balance and power. He can counter punch as well as attack in combination effectively, hence being a boxer puncher, although he does place a more emphasis on pressure.
Tyson was also a swarmer, albeit very skilled and technical, as was JCC. Cotto is a technical swarmer, styles do not signify strengths at all, he does have decent boxing skills, a solid defence and fantastic timing and accuracy. Hatton is a different type of swarmer, certainly not an elite one at that.
You said you were done with the thread, historically, God dislikes lying. Also, why blaspheme Mijares, who is yours and my God? Do you doubt his prophet JC as well? Grow up and convert to Cristianity or forever burn sayeth the Lord.
Bazooka Ike stopping Floyd. The one armed bandit. His jab was the truth But you fail to realize the only reason floyd got peppered with ODH's jab(which he was the only fighter out of 38 to use it succesfully) B/c he was looking for the left hook like a madman and did not care if he got hit with anything else if you think floyd would sit there and be jabbed by bazooka ike who is underrated you are a dip****. A prime Vernon Forrest you have a point. But you are in lala land.
