Stick with the general topics going around at the minute. I thought id make a thread for people to post the worst stoppages they have seen. Top of my list is Enzo Mac against Ovil Mckenzie Second for me would be Enzo again against Frenkle. Not premature, just way way too late and never should have been allowed to continue after the knock down. Froch Groves would have to be third. I want bad stoppages that were too late as well as too early. Also ive added a poll. I want to know whether you think a fight should be stoppped too early rather than too late or whether you think a fighter should be given every chance despite the obvious health risks. I think its better to stop it too early but they is a fine line between looking out for a fighters health and just getting in there way too quickly.
In the very recent, Ovil vs Enzo jumped stright into my mind. Gerber vs Sprott is another recent one I think, only seen it at the time on TV, seem to recall that was a bad call.
In a world championship fight a fighter should be given every chance. If a fighter is still on his feet moving, with his hands up and punching back then a fight should not be stopped (ala Froch Groves)... If a fighter is leaning on the ropes with with hands down taking flush shot after flush shot with his head being bounced around then obviously the fight needs to be stopped. The ref in there has to make a judgement call and should get it right... not too soon, not too late. In a world championship fight the ref has to recognise that the fighters have trained upto 10 weeks or more for their opportunity at glory and that these guys are highly conditioned athletes and that that opportunity should not be snatched away from them as a knee jerk reaction to the fighter looking a bit tired and taking a couple of punches to the head... THIS is what they signed up for. In terms of the actual question 'Should a fight be stopped too early or too late?' I think my answer would be 'the fight should be stopped at the correct point' which shouldn't be too early or late! In a world championship fight a fighter deserves every chance and referees like howard Foster should hang their heads in shame at making a mockery of the sport of boxing.
Yeah calzaghe manfredo wasn't great. You have to remember that fighters know the risk. No one makes them fight. They do it out of choice. If they want to quit or take a knee they can. It's their decision really.

Remember Richard Towers about 18 months ago, I think it was Tony. The ref should have stopped that 3 or 4 times before he actually did.
I thought that stoppage was justified MCloskey was out on his feet and the right hands he were taking were clean flush punches,he wasn't defending himself either.John Lewis is still wank though wouldn't disagree with that.
I don't mind a ref stopping a fight early if the fighter is taking a sustained beating but the stoppage of Groves was just criminal and there was no need for it. When a ref gets a boxer in a headlock to stop a fight you know something very dodgy is going on!
