Naseem hammed should have been great

He missed a significant amount of top guys out.

He may have been the biggest puncher at the weight ever, that is a real possibility.
No I don't like him , no secret there, I think his behaviour, in and out of the ring ,stinks.

 

He certainly could have been ONE of the best ever. Infuriating ! What a waste of talent.

 

Like Morales and Marquez who turned down fight offers? He probably should have fought Espinosa and Norwood, Espinosa lost to Soto who he beat though and Norwood was part of the 'who needs him club'

His division was weak, aside from Marquez who was badly managed, but he fought most of the top fighters from his division and the top fighters from the divisions below MAB, Bungu and McColough

 

athleticly he had it all mentaly he had very little.

 

Hamed never ducked anyone, i keep posting a video from Youtube about how JMM and others turned Hamed down, but people seem to keep ignoring that.

 

Didn't Junior Jones want to fight him after beating Barrera?

Jones was in some pretty good form at that time (96-7) and his height,speed,reach and power would have given Naz nightmares and may have produced an upset of sorts (in England at least).

That said Juniors chin sucked and if Kennedy McKinney could find it and stop him then Hamed could as well and if he did he'd likely render him unconcious.

Still it's a fight that I've have loved to see.

 

Actually when he was with Ingle his balance was extremely good for his style to get off the angles he used for punching in unexpected ways, and was one of his best qualities in the early 90's, if you look and compare his style in his fight under Ingle (first Video) training him, and then see the contrast in his fight under (Suarez, Steward) I think you can see a big difference,

I don't agree with anybody that says he could of been the Greatest or Best featherweight in history and though I believe his style had changed for the worse under steward I don't agree with people that say " the only reason he lost to Barrera was because he wasn't training properly ", the reason he lost to Barrera is because Barrera is a great fighter, I could'nt see him ever beating the likes Armstrong, Pep, Saddler, Canzoneri, Chocolate, Saldivar, Sanchez, Nelson, different level/class of fighter, but I believe if he had stayed with Ingle and kept the hunger and listened to Ingle and his ways, I believe he had a strong chance to become a truly great fighter and given a much better account of himself against Barrera.

Jones fought Mkkinney on the Hamed-Kelly undercard and was flattened. If he won Hamed-Jones probably would have been next, Hamed-Mkkinney I think was supposed to happen but fell through. JJ used to brawl too much to beat Hamed but he surely would have had allot of success and knocked him down before being ko'd himself

 

McKinney got destroyed by Luisito Espinosa from memory shortly thereafter which is maybe why Naz didn't fight him.

Jones was finished after the McKinney fight even though it wasn't that bad of a KO, wear and tear-wise.

Jones was a hard fighter to get a read on. He had all the tools and looked like being a good champ at 118 but then he loses to the average John Michael Jackson and not long after gets KO'd by a plodder in Daryl Pickney. Yet this same guy who looks like he's done rises in weight and manages to turn it around and KO one of boxings brightest stars in Marco Antonio Barrera.

This unpredictability is what makes me think he could've maybe upset Hamed.

If you could hurt Junior Jones and take his right hand, you were probably going to win, at least at the elite level. He had a dammed good jab though.

He also gives you pause when someone dismisses old fighters, because of their lack of balance and general wildness...

 

Hamed wanted nothing to do with Marquez for almost the 2 years that he was Hamed's no 1 contender,and then offered him a contract to get him in to the ring at a moments notice.Marquez is still angry about it and said so in a Ring Mag interview from a few years ago.As far as the Hamed nuthuggery on this thread,he had probably the lowest boxing IQ from any champ in recent memory,and at best,had a good resume,beating a bunch of solid but nothing special,alphabet beltholders.Truth be told,he was more interested in being the "prince" than being great,which he never could have been due to his empty head.

 

Morales turned down the fight right after his war with MAB and needed a rest.Funny how when Hamed was embarrassed by MAB,he fought Calvo and never requested an elite(or fought anyone again) and retired.As far as Marquez is concerned,Hamed avoided him for almost 2 years then tried to rush him into the ring at a moments notice.He was never serious about fight JMM.
