I'm starting to forget a bit but know music around that time rather well. I was more than a little OCD music wise and spent a lot of time on a couple of boom music forums. Have heaps of books and chart books blah blah. I get that way with things i love hahaha

I have that song, absolutely. Good tune and it's on a USB in my car right now. It was a pretty big hit.

We will indeed be seeing more and more go that we grew up with - cricketers, musicians, boxers, actors, porn stars!!!!!!, and many others too. Not something to look forward to.

You’re not wrong - Aussie cricket has taken some big hits in recent years, most passing well before their time.

Just recently, Ponting had that scare also but fortunately got the all clear. They’re setting up to grant free annual heart checks for all former Australian and State players. That’s a good thing.

I visited the quack the other day and he threw in an ad hoc, precautionary skin check - he used a handheld scanning device and it took less than 10 mins - data analysed by the device immediately and I came up all clear. Good thing - I’ve copped a lot of sun in my lifetime.

Easy A and really a must given our hot climate and increased exposure to the sun.

Porn stars too? Not to hex him but Sly Stallone would payout for the Quinella when the day comes - that’s IF you think he’s eligible for the “actor” category also. Yo, Adrian! Haha.

Wow i didn't know about those checks being brought in.

Ponting is fit as a fiddle too, like some of the others. Warne not so much.

I had one of those skin checks 4 years ago - i am DUE. Played endless cricket, golf and tennis from junior cricket to tennis in my 30's. Top of the hands are well marked up lol

QLD is terrible for sun and heat. It's annoyed me a little more as i got older. When i turned 32-33 they made an allowance for me to play the Vets tennis on Sundays. Loads of high quality players (one world ranked in the 60's category).....a few of us used to stay back and play hard sets afterward, all doubles but by the time you've hit about 9-10 sets in 35-38 (court temp higher obviously) you knew where it was at. We had the odd person collapse.

That’s a nice range of sports you competed in, reflective of excellent hand/eye coordination and well developed supplementary technique.

It seems a lot of cricketers like and do very well at golf - possibly since it requires certain natural abilities and skills common to those required to excel in cricket.

I only played a bit of cricket and not enough to hone my technique - I essentially got by on hand/eye skills - it wasn’t pretty but I made good connections. Lol.

It’s funny, a lot of folk look to retiring to QLD, since it’s suggested the consistently warm climate is more friendly the older folk.

I hear you on our heat though.

I remember school assemblies in blazing heat, no cover, kids dropping like flies - carried away liked wounded soldiers from the battlefield while the assembly continued to plough on for what seemed like forever.

Of the course the teachers/brothers were under cover while they delivered their endless sermons.

I’m a bit over the heat also. In my neck of the woods our highest temp. was 48.9 deg Celsius during more than a weeks worth of 40 + degrees days. Insane. I definitely live in a hot spot so ACs throughout the house are a must.

    Cheers mate.

Cricketers tend to love golf and do well at it. Ponting, Sobers et al. From memory Sir Garry was around scratch at 60 odd or more and still driving it 300 yards. Ponting is awesome among many others.

I started cricket as virtually a toddler so went ok but took to tennis and golf at a later age (golf around 20 odd i guess and tennis seriously at about 15-16). The way to improve at tennis and cricket and find your level is to get among better players and see if you can rise. I was about 32 when i really pushed at tennis but had a few interesting years after that. Never a state rep at anything but enjoyed the levels i got to.

Around my city the aged struggle plenty in the middle of summer when you can have a week where it doesn't get below 36 and might hit 40 odd. It's not dry heat here so that adds to the stress.

When i lived in Charters Towers we sometimes had one of the school band drop during a performance.

To get off topic i will tell a little story. In grade 5 we had this perennial hmmmmm, idiot i guess you've call him. Always in trouble, first guy we ever had get the "cuts", etc. So after "little lunch" one day word comes to us that Steve has his ***** caught in his pants zip and is in the toilets with teachers who after trying to, i guess, free willy. We are up in a second level room about 50-60 meters from the toilet block. Then an ambulance arrives and they go into the toilets after the teachers, obviously, failed in their endeavour. A few minutes later we hear blood curdling screams coming from the area as they obviously ramp things up and get the job done. You can't make this stuff up!!!

That's one hot area. AC would be an absolute!

    1. LOL! Man, thanks for relating.

I haven’t heard the terms “the cuts” and “little lunch” for so long…it evokes so many memories from primary school.

The most I ever got were 4 of the best out of a possible 6 slashes. That smarted plenty enough. We had one brother who literally took a run off to enhance the quality of his “strikes”. Psycho.

You’re right - elevated competition is the fertile ground for potential greater development as an individual sports person - like in boxing, we could nominate different fighters as having dealt with a far superior competition - but the competition in question also contributed to the development/improvements of the individual fighter himself.

That’s just one of the reasons why it is difficult to compare fighters from different eras.

I was one of those idiots who got his todger caught in his zip one time - the perils of no underwear - a case of an already free Willy and then literally having to free Willy - f*cking hurt like nothing on Earth - and the more you tried to free yourself the more you felt “zipped” in - luckily I worked “it” out myself - oh the shame, haha.

Side note - recently picked up a “reflex” ball cheap, discounted to $4.00, at Kmart. That’s the elastic and ball contraption affixed to the head that Kostya Tszyu used to use.

It’s actually quite a bit of fun and you improve each and every time you use it. I’m nailing it at least 20 - 30 times in row now. It’s practical applications otherwise I cannot really say.

I’ve seen Usyk use one so there maybe something to it but then again he might be using it just be for “show”.

The Mrs and kids have a laugh when they watch me….I say, “whatever!”, Big Boys need their toys even if they look “borderline” when they’re playing with those toys. LOL.
