Nick was exactly what you saw on-screen, SJ. He was always accessible to fans during downtime of a broadcast. Showed genuine interest in them. Would talk boxing with 'em like a bud in a bar.
May he rest in peace. I knew about his cancer from an article I previously read, seems like he was taking it better than most men would. He was at peace with himself.
This man is now free from all pain and illness, and the burden his family has carried has been absolved as well. That in and of itself is worth celebrating. His voice (and mullett) will live on in the minds of us all.
RIP Nick. This makes me sad, he seemed like such a nice guy and really had a good attitude about his condition all the way through.
Godspeed Nick, and thanks. Bladder cancer is one of those diseases which a daily aspirin regimen may protect against. If anything of any value at all were to come of this tragedy, it might be an awareness of ways to safeguard against a repeat of this. (I've been taking extended release 81 mg doses for years, and haven't had any of the health problems younger and fitter siblings of mine have suffered from.) Dying at 64 with a five year old and 13 year old left behind is an obscenity in this day and age. He seems to have at least been at peace, and his family will always have hours of him on camera to remember by, better than a few dusty photographs, letters and other vague mementos.
I sense even though Nick was fighting the cancer hardcore, he knew deep down he was on his way out...... Stage # 4 is about as futile as it gets.... WORD! R.I.P. MR.BILL
