Another vote for Corrie. Early. As big of a target as Valuev is, he'll get hit clean and early with punches he won't even see. Let alone how clumsy he'll look in there with a southpaw. A guy that size loses those legs and it'd be ugly w/ ref jumping in to wave it off. That sparring story was out there from years ago with these two. And Valuev hardly went through a who's who of the potential good fighters he could have fought. He and Briggs should have went at it.
Prior to hearing this sparring story, my pick was Valuev by decision, but I'm not so sure now. But sparring and a real fight aren't always the same thing.
is this old fat shot2shyte retired corrie who easily killed prime wlad in seconds...OR ... prime corrie who was never a successful contender?
I t would be an abbreviated version of Baer-Carnera with the giant getting hit so fast and so hard that the referee would soon tire of the resounding crash of Valuev's body landing on the canvas. Multiple knockdowns in the first 3 rounds and the ref stops it. Sanders WTKO 3 Valuev.
I see the valuev carnera thing but why is sanders failed contender being compared with legit atg baer?
This fight could go either way. Sanders could get an early KO since Valuev is hardly an elusive target. But, as inept as Valuev was, he is huge, strong, and his chin is a lot closer to Vitali's than Wlad's. I see Sanders beating Valuev from pillar to post for the first 3-4 rounds (maybe coming close to stopping him), but punching himself out and gassing by the late rounds where he likely gets stopped himself due to exhaustion. Sanders track record of stopping fighters after the first 3 rounds is practically non-existent. I see the hunter becoming the hunted in the second half of the fight, similar to Sanders fight with Vitali.
The Sanders of the Wlad bout is the version we're talking of, right? There was nothing "failed" about that particular version of Sanders. Corrie destroyed Wlad....and in the apparent, less than tip top shape that he was in. What would have been the case if he had trained more for WK? Probably no difference, but it may have made his bout with Vitali more interesting. Sanders came closest, IMO, to decking Wlad's brother, who evaded going down by reacting to that potential crisis in a way that the even bigger, more ponderous giant Valuev would not be able to do....also IMO. Sanders was, one more time,...IMO, uniquely capable of introducing Nicolai Valuev to the canvas, and with that deadly hand speed, southpaw delivery and power that he possessed, I don't think that Valuev would have stood a chance of recovering, nevermind staying on his feet.
apart from him having an entire career where he had failed to win a world title fight or even land a title shot. apart from that, nothing failed yep.
