Nigel Benn/Michael Watson II ?

Supposing that in the rematch between Michael Watson and Chris Eubank that tragic ending never happens. In this alternate timeline,Chris gets up from the canvas but does n't manage to connect with those knockout blows on Michael. Watson gets awarded a UD.

Now,if a Watson victory had come to pass,the plan was for him to set up a second fight with Nigel Benn.
Would it have been repeat for Michael or revenge for Nigel in 1992 ?

 

I see Watson beating him again Stevie, even tho Benn had learnt a little since his loss I reckon he always had the tools to defeat Benn.
Watson beats him a gassed Benn in around 10. Imo.

I agree that Michael's superior skillset claims a second victory over Nigel. Benn may well last the distance this time,though.

 

Added to the tragedy that was Watson's fate, in the Eubank rematch, is that Watson had looked nothing short of an elite fighter, leading up to the punch that effectively ended the bout and his career.

Had Watson come through the Eubank (II) bout, unscathed - taking the inevitable points victory - I can only imagine he'd have hammered his new-found status home, at Benn's expense, by way of an one-sided destruction.

 

Benn seemed in awe of Watson after their fight. I suspect a rematch would be like Tyson/BrunoII, in that Benn should be very competitive on paper, but will be beaten long before the first bell rings.

 

It's an interesting question. I have an immense amount of respect for Benn, who showed what can be accomplished by taking setbacks in the proper perspective; adapt, adopt, improve as John Cleese might say.

Still, Watson takes him. Too tough, too heady, too resilient and intelligent. He counters Benn's initial attacks and stops him late.

 

Watson looked breathtaking on that terrible night. Like really really good. He beats Benn.

 

I was amazed at Watson’s performance at White Hart Lane.

 

He’s too big for Nigel for a start.

The Nigel Benn of 1989 was a very different fighter to the one of 1992, he learnt a lot from the losses to Eubank and Watson like how to pace himself as well technical improvements to his defence and boxing ability. I'll still go with Watson winning a close decision, styles make fights after all but am slightly surprised at how many on here are completely writing Nigel off in this.

 

Benn was a far better fighter fighter after Watson who peaked in this and the Eubanks bouts. Going to go against the grain here and say Benin’s heavy blows are too much for Watson who is eventually stopped late in the day.
